Dish Scapes on 199 is interesting

Trying to figure out how a tropical island ties in with January.
About as well as a Wild West scene does. (That was last January's Scape.)

Agree 100%. It didn't feel right. Being in Chicago, I mentioned that the November one didn't feel right either - it had a ton of leaves changing colors and that beautiful fall is much more of an end of September to mid October time here. But yeah, tropical island in January does seem a little out of place - unless it is helping me think about what the summer will hold and wanting these cold, snow, icy days to be done!
Well, both Scapes were sponsored by DIY, so take it up with them.

I noticed this one doesn't say "Dish Scapes" in the lower right hand corner, at least not right now. When I was watching it yesterday I am pretty sure it was there. I really like the bullfrog that jumps onto the leaf where the Dish Scapes logo normally is.
It makes me wonder if Dish is thinking of selling the naming rights next. The EPG indicator is simply "SCAPE" so there is not necessarily a need for it to be called a Dish Scape.

At least that was part of a theme for the month. Wild west movies, strange encounters month had strange encounters, etc. Did the theme tie-in just get dropped?
The matching theme tie-in got dropped way back in May. Here is my post about it from that time:
I think that this is the first time that the theme of the Dish Scape does not match the theme of the Watch Event being promoted on channel 198. When I first saw this month's Watch Event theme listed there (Salute to Our First Responders) I thought that the Dish Scape was actually going to implement my earlier idea:

The new one will be coronavirus-themed, demonstrating social distancing.
It was actually a Mountain Spring.

Yes. and Yes, if they are still being featured in the Gallery app on channel 198. If you have not already subscribed to Gallery before, you can still get one month for free when you sign up. (Normally $5 per month.)
Well, I went back to May and even found my own post:
Animations/sounds I saw/heard

Spring
  1. Nice babbling brook
  2. Flowers bloom
  3. Blue butterflies flutter right
  4. Monarchs flutter left
  5. Deer
Summer
  1. Louder babbling brook reminiscent of peeing into a toilet. :( This gets strangely quieter during thunderstorms.
  2. Noisy thunderstorms with lightning and rain
  3. Different flowers
  4. Night scene is in this season IIRC
  5. At least 3 types of bird calling. The one I recognized was an owl.
Fall
  1. Woodpecker pecking
  2. Leaves falling
  3. More subdued babbling brook
  4. Small white insects that appear and disappear. Fireflies out in broad daylight?
Winter
  1. Falling snow
  2. Blowing snow
  3. Snow on ground and mountains
  4. Brook frozen over
  5. Fox
Did I miss anything?
I was conscious of it at the time. :D But apparently I didn't realize the actual name of this Scape. IMHO they should have called it Babbling Brook.

I never tried that. What good is the Gallery app?
They have all kinds of nature scenes and artwork, not just the regular Dish Scapes. (Although they have those, too.) Here is a screen shot:

I don't subscribe, but at least they fixed my original issue with the app, so I can now see the preview thumbnails of the various Scapes. Pictured above is the one from May.

How long is this loop? I record each one of these, and so far my recording has been going for 4ish hours, and it has not turned to the night time or the sunrise part yet. Does Dish Scape go based off of a real day? So I won't get the night time portion till the evening? And then all night the island will be at night until the next day? It seems like there is a mini loop during the day though - the thunderstorm comes through every 15 minutes.

I recorded one maybe the shark week that ran 8 hours.

All this complaining for something you get for nothing.:rolleyes I wonder if you guys would complain if they discontinued the whole thing.
The posts leading up to your post do not seem to be very complainy at all. I imagine Dish will at least keep the $5 per month Gallery option available as long as possible. That is, until they need more room on the Hoppers to add yet another new app. ;)

I noticed the same thing yesterday evening. The island Scape got dark around the same time that it actually gets dark here in the Eastern time zone. My sister was watching it in the morning on the very first day of the Scape, and she complained that it had not changed yet after a long time of watching it. Then, it changed to the day scene while she was talking on the phone, around the time that it is actually sunrise here. So, let the discussion begin about exactly where this island must be located, for the timing to work out right.

I also noticed from my limited watching of both the day and night scenes, that the exact same things seem to happen in the night scene as happen during the day. It is just that they are in their night colors instead of the bright day color scheme. Is there anything different that happens only in one portion of the Scape (day or night) but not the other?

Perhaps Dish caught on to the fact that people are recording these, so now they do not want to make it convenient to get a complete one-hour loop to see everything. So, they stretch it out over the course of an actual real-time day now. This means that you either need multiple recordings (at different times of day) to get the whole thing, or one really long recording taking up more space on your hard drive. The alternative would be to pay for their Gallery app option, to see (what would presumably be a shorter version of) it On Demand.

I have had it recording since a little after noon, Chicago time, and the sunset started around 6:02pm on the playback. It took about 10 minutes for the entire sunset to occur and now has been the night scene the entire time.
