20 year Dish Customer

Well I finally cut ties with Dish. With RSN's being gone, I Ieft after 20 years as a loyal customer. Happy to be watching 99 % of what I had with dish and watching local sports on FUBO.tv for $69.99 month, including 1000 hour cloud based DVR.
Do you have data caps to be concerned with? I looked at the very same thing, and then watched by internet data camp be quickly eaten up.

Dish has to change. Start by telling programmers the truth. You are losing subscrivers in droves because of high priced channel bundling. EW Scripps is taking direct aim at you with their OTA push.

You honestly don't think they haven't been doing that for years? Why else to you think there are so many disputes/blackouts.

Why do people assume Dish, or any provider, is responsible for bundling? That is forced on them by the content provider and in many (most?) cases that content provider also sets the restrictions as to what programming tier they require their content to be included in. Yet every time Dish fights back people on here start whining at Dish about the blackouts. Hey folks, you can't have your cake and eat it too, either you want Dish to cave to every demand along with the ridiculous price increases or you want them to fight to keep costs down, it's one or the other, pick one. Now, if you want to be upset with someone and you want to complain to someone then direct your feelings to the FCC. They're the ones allowing investment groups to collect locals (and RSN's) and then use that as a way to extort exorbitant fees from retransmitters like Dish. It's the FCC that allowed bundling in the first place so be mad at them. Complain to them.

If you are an Xfinity CATV customer you might want to look at their XFi Complete plan. It has no cap...
I have told him about that before, well worth the $25 a month especially if you lease the modem from them which that $25 includes, when I had xfinity ( Charter now) my data always averaged 1.6TBs a month.

The only question is how long is that good for. Xfinity every years goes up about 10 dollars and you have to fight to get 5 back for that year. Also customer hold times can run up to 2 hours

How is that different then any other provider, also unlimited data from Comcast used to be $50 a month, then they started xFi Advantage which about 2 years ago was $15, so $5 increase each year, unlimited with no xFi ( say if you own the modem) is $30.

Yeah, but by the time you pay for your internet ala carte, it's $95. Then add in the $25 unlimited plan. That's $120. Add in a $70 Fubo bill and that's $190.

I can bundle internet and cable tv for less.
and you can still add xFi to your bundle to avoid paying overage charges you posted about earlier in this thread, also you never said if you lease the modem from Comcast, if so you are already paying about $15, so then only another $10 for unlimited data.

I own my own modem, but that is beside the point. AGAIN. if you do this you will pay MORE OVERALL

$95 internet charge plus $25 (unlimited with their modem or $30 with my modem) plus $70 FUBO = $185 to $190.

My cable TV bundle is $124 plus equipment, taxes, and fees for $163. So even when the $20 promo expires, it will be $183 vs. $185 to $190.

Comcast has priced out internet ala carte so that - no matter what - I will pay the same or more if I go to a competitor for TV. And cable has both RSNs. Not a single streamer has both RSNs plus Pac 12 Network. So a plus there. FUBO has 1 RSN plus Pac 12. Youtube/Huluhas 1 RSN and no Pac 12. Directv now has 1 RSN and no Pac 12.

Only answer is dropping the speed of the internet to save $5, and its a zero sum game. Drop the speed and the household members run out of bandwith to watch TV, stream or otherwise.

I'm thinking about going the other direction. When we moved a bit over a year ago, we got YTTV for the temporary apartment we were in, then kept it in the new house. I love no two year contract; if something better comes along, I can cancel with no charge in literally a minute. My wife loves no cables, so if she wants TV in the kitchen, sunroom, to move the sunroom TV to a guest bedroom, etc. it's simple.

However, after about a year, the bloom is off the rose. First the picture quality is poor. When you watch a network show via VOD, it's pretty good. If you watch live or especially a show you DVR from a network, it's obviously so compressed that it is really bad. Lots of threads about this on the YTTV reddit. Secondly, 2 channel sound only. Third, the interface is horrible. The Live TV guide only goes out a few hours, there is no way to check the information on a show playing, when you do get info it is extremely limited, etc. If you're browsing your DVR library, to get back to live TV you have to hit the back button, then hit it again, then hit it again, then move the cursor to Live TV and hit OK again. There's no way to watch a channel and switch to another and then hit a "swap" button to simply go back to the last channel you watched. The DVR interface is terrible. If you decide to record, saw, Law and Order SVU it will put every episode of SVU in your SVU show list. You cannot tell it to only record new episodes. After you watch an episode, it stays in your library and show list and you can't remove it. There's no information on when an episode first aired. And on and on.

To get all of the channels we want, we have to subscribe to Philo and YTTV. And after screening all of the streaming services that have Live TV, such as Fubo, Hulu, AT&T TV, etc. YTTV ends up being the best of all of them when you combine features. For example. AT&T TV has a better PQ, but you can't really FF and RW live TV, DVR recording are only kept for 90 days, and they have other interface issues.

We're at a point where we really miss the Hopper 3 superior interface, the much better picture quality and sound, etc. I'm willing to pay a bit more for a much better experience.

I made the same change about 2 weeks ago, with the same deal for the DVR & unlimited screens for $69.99. I'm saving $45 a month. I already have unlimited internet at both houses for personal and business use, so that won't cost me any more than I'm already paying. Looked at all the live streamers and fuboTV checked off all the boxes for what we like to watch.
