I think this is an elementary problem but it's been so long since I've messed with my system I can't remember what I'm missing. I wanted to change my remote from IR to RF and also control my Denon AVR for volume and power on/off. It worked for RF change and volume control but not power on/off. What do I need to do to add power on/off?

Go to Menu, Settings, Parental Controls or you may see Remote Control.RF Setup. Program your tv first. Test the volume. If it worked. Select - It worked. Next - another screen should open up and say Program Audio Device. Select it. A search box will open - Type Denon. After it is found - Type your model number of your Denon receiver. It will check to see if it finds it. Select - Volume lock. It will do the volume check. Point Denon remote at the tv. If the volume worked. Select - It worked. Then select use audio device. The remote should work for it. I am assuming the DirecTV remote will control the volume for your Denon receiver. Lastly, these instructions were for my HS-17 server. Your DirecTV receiver remote control setup could be different depending on your model. Hope this help's. Let us know if this worked for you.

The remote I'm trying to program has no TV. It is a home theater with a projector. I do not need to turn on the projector, although I might give it a try. My problem is getting the power to turn on/off on the Denon receiver. The volume works but not the power. How do I get the power to work? I'm using a HS-17 with the C61K client.

The D* remotes can’t control power on/off for AVR’s, unless you set up HDMI-CEC.

I never understood why the remote could do volume up/down for an AVR but not send out a power on/off command when pressing on/off on the remote, yet it can for the TV.

One more interesting find. Join AVS Forum. I'm on Tapatalk and can join easily from the app or you can go on the web. There you will find two subscribers talking about your issue. After you join: Search DIRECTV remote and Denon receiver. The person talks about powering on receiver using one of the Denon codes. If that does not work then, the HDMI method it is.

I'm in RF mode. The C61K must convert and transmit the volume up/down through its only connection, the HDMI cable. So it's puzzling that it cannot also do power. I'll take a look at the video. What section did you find the discussion in on AVS?

I‘m pretty sure it sends volume up/down via IR.

For power control, do you have have HDMI-CEC set up on all devices?
