Personally, if I am merging into traffic, expressway, I am speeding up.
You should never expect the person already in the lane to move for you, some do, most don't.
Its the on coming persons job to be moving fast enough when merging to Not influence traffic, they should not have to speed up Or slow down because of you.
If they are nice (and considerate) they will move to the next lane allowing you easier access, IF available.

I never said for them to move for me. I simply stated that you don't hit the accelerator the exact moment someone is already trying to merge in.

Think about it. The exact moment I merge into the other lane THEN they hit the accelerator! It happens a lot. Don't assume things. Many people are jerks nowadays. If you think I may be a slow driver I get impatient behind slow drivers ahead of me. I even posted a thread on this site several years ago, and while it wasn't about slow drivers, it was about slow walkers. I'd post a link if I didn't think it would take me forever to find, or perhaps it's been deleted since, but feel free to look for it yourself if you want. Another thing I get pissed about is when people cut in front of you then slow way down. That's just plain rude. But it's also rude to assume that I would be a slow driver when you clearly don't know other facts about me. I'm impatient when it comes to slow and lazy people, but I also have regards for safety and I would think it would be common sense to not hit the gas when someone is merging in front of you. What's least important is that one or more individuals car would get damaged and one or more individuals insurances go up, but what's more important is that someone could get hurt, especially in the winter. People who lack common courtesy I have very little patience for, but it pales in comparison to my lack of patience to people who don't respect their own safety or worse yet, others'. And like I said, I always drive around the speed limit, but with that I still regard any form of safety even higher. I don't hit the gas when someone drives in front of me even though I have low patience, but I try to have patience for safety.
Probably depends on the state but I assume the ramp has to yield.

True, but the actual person who was dilly dallying was the person in the lane I was merging into, he didn't hit the gas until I started to merge in front of him, so whatever the yield sign laws are wherever you are don't matter in that case. Common sense dictates that you don't step on the gas immediately following someone trying to merge in front of you. Another thing of common sense following that statement is that you can pass them once they're completely in front of you (and I always drive the speed limit, with the exception of when it's slippery out).
If he's behind you and you're halfway in the lane, why would you abort the merge?

IMO, the Fast and Furious movies have helped make younger drivers more aggressive on the road. It's just a theory and opinion on my part.
And I also find in my neck of the woods that some of the most aggressive drivers are those driving large pickup trucks (Silverados, Rams, Tundras, etc.) and sports cars.....they think they're invincible because they feel they are protected by their large trucks or that they think they can outrun you in their turbo cars.

If for no other reason than to catch the eye of someone who is gazing at their phone.
I think it may have less to do with being aggressive and more to do with the average driver not appearing to be particularly motivated to get where they are going. The vehicle has become a refuge; perhaps this is why people are seeking vehicles that are as big as a home. Every day is Sunday.
It many jurisdictions, the speed signs are mostly a recommendation (note that not all signs say SPEED LIMIT). The more important metric for determining speed is the current flow of traffic. If you're out there to prove that you can drive the speed limit when everyone else is moving faster, you may have exhausted everyone else's patience.
There is often something behind always being the one that is disrespected by other drivers. To be sure, there are those who are generally disrespectful but respect is a two-way street.
To be fair, the "California Stop" has been a thing for as long as I can remember.
Truckers have long known Oregon as "the state with eight shades of red" when it comes to running red lights.
In Californicopia all of those have been standard since I got my first driver's license 60 years ago...
