My Sony Bravia KD65X85J updated the Android TV software to a version of Google TV (yeah, apparently it's been renamed back to Google TV) this morning and since then none of the app buttons on the remote work. I can access all the apps thru the menu system but not directly using the dedicated buttons. It also reset all the privacy settings, like Samba, to defaults. In other words it turned everything back on. Just a headsup. Very annoying.

Try changing batteries ?

Is there a way to re pair the remote to the TV, this way it would refresh the codes for the remote ....

You say the remote works for all other things with the TV, just not the pre set buttons ?

See if this helps any :

  1. Reset the remote control.
    1. Open the battery compartment cover and remove the batteries.
    2. Press and hold the Power button for three seconds.
    3. Insert the batteries again and close the battery compartment cover.

Everything works on the remote except the dedicated app buttons; Prime, Netflix, etc, and that happened with the software update. The apps themselves do work, thay just have to be launched from the menu system.

OK, I figured out how to fix the dumb thing (Smart TV my aunt fanny!). Pressed the "Apps" button on the remote, highlighted the "Prime" app on the screen, then I pressed the "Prime" dedicated button on the remote. This launched the app. I closed the app and then pressed the dedicated "Prime" button on the remote and it is now synced again and does launch the app.

OK, it's worse than first thought. It turns out when I hit the Mute button now it kills the app. Who knows what else I'll find. This is a mess.

Sounds like they have “fixed” the fix folks came up with to keep everything “unfixed.”
;)

Out of town. Can’t check my Sony.

I'm home, but don't know what to check, seeing mine is working from the remote, although I rarely ever use the shortcuts because I typically don't use the TV remote.

If theres something I can check for you guys, let me know.

Radio, what did Sony say ?

I wonder if a basic reset would help at all, that would reset the TV itself, I would imagine the remote would as well.

I've always held the Power button for about 10 seconds and it will take over on its own. (this is a Soft reboot)

No reply from Sony. A power disconnect reset did nothing to help.

It almost sounds like it needs to be re synced with the TV, kinda like when you program a remote and everything works except the Input button ... I haven't found any info yet about how to do that, just how to reset the TV.

Is there a model number on the remote at all ?

Radioguy,
Does your remote have a voice feature on it ?

I found steps to UnPair and Re Pair your Sony remote to the TV.

My thought is if you Un Pair your remote from the TV and Re Pair, it will sync up correctly with all functions working, kinda like I mentioned earlier where maybe the wrong code was input(ed) ...

This came from the Voice pair portion of Sony's website, figuring that doing that would re pair the remote and reinstall whatever it lost.

Good Luck ....
If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll check with my contacts at the Local High End place tomorrow and see if they have an answer.

Well there's an hour and a half I'll never get back. Contacted Sony, the tech grabbed ahold of my TV remotely, fuddled around a while and said it was fixed; it wasn't. Then he lost the sound. Finally got that back. Then he said it was probably the router, I should reboot it (see this going downhill?). Like that was going to fix borked buttons on the remote! Seriously? When an hour and a half had passed with no progress and his next suggestion was that I needed to create a Google account I'd had enough and terminated the session.

As I wrote up in another thread, we took a significant lightning strike a few weeks back and one thing that was damaged was the main board on the Sony. They came in last week and replaced the board and once connected up it again updated (before even going into the setup menus) but this time it did not screw it all up and everything is now back to normal operation. It appears the first update corrupted something and unfortunately Sony in it's infinite wisdom has no pathway to uninstall an update so if it gets corrupted you're S.O.L. I have disabled any future updates so hopefully I'm safe.

Yes, It Does say, once you install an update, theres no going back ...

Wonder if a Factory Reset would take it back, but it would reset ALL your settings.

Fwiw, I always turn OFF the Samba stuff in the settings.
One of the first things I do when I fine tune the TV originally.

Yeah, Samba et al is turned off. No, a factory reset won't take it back. Replacing the main board reset everything back to factory settings so I spent a lot of time going back over everything. Fortunately I had all the settings written down so I didn't have to experiment this time around.
