Do you have a Hopper3?Why can't they just ship me a 4K Joey and let me do it myself since it would be replacing a Joey 2.0?
That's silly on Dish's part. Retailers will sell, and presumably ship, 4K Joey receivers. They will only do installs...they won't ship it. I'm talking with Dirt now and they said their is no option to ship.
That's perfectly valid but it doesn't mean a technician is mandatory. Just ask the customer. Dish knows what equipment is in place, what is replacing what, and any special things to consider. For a true SWAP, they should at least give the option to ship it and let the customer do it or set up a technician visit. Think about it - swapping a Joey for a Joey (being 4K changes nothing) is simpler than swapping a dual-tuner DVR (Hopper, 622, etc). There are more cables to swap, and potentially mix up, you have to swap the UHF antenna, etc. I know everyone here laughs at those, but as you say, many users don't have a clue nor do they want to learn. Most people don't know nor do they want to swap it themselves. I know people who refuse ship and swap and demand that a technician come perform the swap.
The s/w for the 4K Joey is already on the Hopper. The Hopper has s/w for ALL models of Joeys. If I'm not mistaken, it's 100% hands-off by the user as well once it's connected. Just connect it, power it on, and walk away. The initial software update takes a long time. Someone has to entertain the customer while the software is loading!![]()
Trust me. You don't want a 4K Joey. The fact that they are still selling them is ridiculous. If you want a new Joey, you want a Joey 4. The last time I tried to get a Joey 4, they would only do it if I added the Hopper+ and it required a tech. This was back when the Hopper+ first came out though, so things may have changed. Also, this thread is 7 years old!can i just replace the joey3 with 4 k joey? is there any thing that has to be done other than just wireing it up? THANK YOU!!!!!!
The 4K Joey will give you very little 4K. It is not worth the effort, and money, to trade the Joey 3 for it.can i just replace the joey3 with 4 k joey? is there any thing that has to be done other than just wireing it up? THANK YOU!!!!!!
The 4K Joey does not do HDR, therefore you can't watch any 4K HDR material live, that's all Dish offers right now. You must record it on your H3 then play it on the 4K Joey (may even have to move it to an EHD first).
Instead, insist on the Joey 4. If they insist on also installing the Hopper +, that's OK, you can remove the Hopper+ and just have regular Dish and Dish 4K HDR programming or leave the + and have the ability to install Android apps and get even more 4K by streaming content directly into the Hopper.
Scuttlebutt is that the Hopper + is getting better with every update and might be worth the try.
Last word was the Hopper+ and the Joey 4 are free installs.
I have a 4K Joey, and I self installed. If I had to do it again, I woud have stayed with the Joey 2.0. Sometimes, with the 4K Joey, while watching a show recorded on the DVR, it will stop, then restart, and say we have no Broadband Connection. It boots back up, but it is still very frustrating. The 4K Joey will give you very little 4K. It is not worth the effort, and money, to trade the Joey 3 for it.
