DISH Has Made it Impossible to be a VIP211k Owner

They get touchy about that for whatever reasons. Like it's something totally nefarious. The warned me not to try to sell my bad 722 that they let me keep because they didn't want to pay shipping back. I guess they thought I was possibly lying about it being bad in order to free it up to sell....

They got touchy when we said that we own our boxes they started acting like cops ... it's not like i bought it off of craigslist . i would think solid signal would be an authorized retailer. They also told us that we own all of the splitters the hub and the LNB. wich i found shocking!!! since they used to get all crazy and want that stuff back to LOL!!! i could never understand why they would want crap back that's been beaten by the weather!!!

Especially when they pull back-room shenanigans to mess with the old receivers that just aren't dying fast enough for them (like what I'm convinced they are doing to 211k recordings). That brings in a whole other level of trust issues.

The only thing that's making the old VIPs obsolete, is Dish's desire for them to be obsolete. As far as I know, there's no plan to switch from mpeg-4 on sat, or mpeg-2 on ATSC. The only thing that an old 211k won't do in modern times is... die (well, or stream content). So Dish decided to kill them off.

When people come to that kind of a conclusion (like I have), complaints are the natural progression in the process. Doesn't mean that we're bad people... just means we don't like the forced artificial obsolescence. Even old versions of Windows were allowed to fade away, without being intentionally killed off to speed up the process.

Certainly the chances are that if you own your boxes you also own the dish/LNBF. Unless you started with a leased system and have for whatever reason substituted out owned rx's for leased. Or if DiSH supplied the dish/LNBF on install. They used to be persistent about getting back the LNBF (just that) off of the dish when canceling service, but you could whine that it's way up on the roof and you don't want to fall and break your neck or to have to pay for a service call and they'd let it go. And really, if they wanted it back they should roll a truck just like they did to install it. But nowadays I suspect they have plenty of the older ones as they've started rolling out this new twin.
