IMO a natural transition and not that surprising all things considered. Moving it to one of the most popular and accessible platforms on the planet, potentially allowing Google to lean into it in a variety of ways as an entity that doesn't own studios competing for the awards.

As Sean gets into below, better and more cohesive coverage of related events and ceremonies that wouldn't be possible on a regular network without a disjointed experience, and the potential for things like an Oscar channel on YTTV.

Personal opinions about the value of the show aside (disclaimer: not really a fan myself), I think it is significant that a once a year event with a worldwide following is moving to YT. How long before the Superbowl does the same?

you seem to have mistaken the Oscars for the Emmys?

There is a lot of overlap since TV stars often make movies and vice versa. Either way it's just a self congratulatory reacharound fest that I personally don't care to watch. But that's just me.
