I don't think TCL brings that much to the game.
Consider what TCL brought to CES and compare that with what Sony announced (they promised future media briefings).
Sony sees declining future?
Sony has its IP and extensive movie rights, and they seem to be printing money (relatively speaking) in the mirrorless camera business. Sony has what's left of the gaming console market mostly locked up (and the gaming PC market is in shambles, given RAM pricing).

Their pro equipment certainly pays more bills than their consumer line. Not convinced about their diversion into automobiles (AFEELA).

I decided few years ago, when my Sony goes out, it will be replaced with a 98" TCL. They are very slow on updated is the biggest pitfall.

Sony hasn't brought anything to CES in years. They have had their own PR events instead forever, so nothing new there.

FWIW: I bought a Bravia 9 last year, and it is a great set, but I had already decided it was going to be the last Sony I bought. Not sure what I'd get instead, but it is just so poorly behaved when paired with other components (Sony AVR, Apple TV, etc.)

Just wonder if TCL is going to start including ATSC 3.0 Tuners which was standard in most Sony TV's.
I'm going to have to agree with Lon and Tyler: ATSC 3.0, on its current trajectory with $60 TV adapters, is going to be a non-starter.

The Zapperbox architecture strongly resembles an effort to resurrect the TiVo proprietary client-server model.

I have a TCL TV and a Sony Bravia. I have been very happy with both of them.

After LG got sued over the astc 3.0 tuners. I wonder if anyone will be building them into there sets 🤔. our x900h has the astc 3.0 tuner it's active. our a90j does not have it.I think that i would have an independent tuner from the t.v. as some are more sensitive than others.. I wonder what processing chip they will use 🤔
