Word on the street is that Hughesnet is in financial problems. Wildblue is eating into their market share. Wildblue is currently offering free equipment to existing Hughesnet customers. Can anyone who sell both Wildblue and Hughesnet comment on customer satisfaction?

This is totally RIDICULOUS. Word on the street is wrong, way wrong. Were did you
here this? I can throw plenty of info your way proving this is BS. If Wildblue is offering free equipment to Hughes customers they are doing a damn good job at hiding it I cannot find anything about it. Were did you hear that?

In the past month our company have replaced some Wildblue systems because of installation problems and customer service. We have also installed for customers who wanted Wildblue but the spotbeam is down right now in this area and they go to Hughes. I know this to be true in other areas as well so it looks like Wildblue is losing in the market sharing.

Don't worry about Hughes they are doing fine and will continue. Wildblue may be a good contender in the Residential market but the Enterprise market "were it counts" Wildblue cannot touch them. They have all the major business that will carry them, Walmart, Chevron, McDonald's and plenty more.

Even last quarter with Wildblue's 299 install deal Hughes did find.

First quarter revenues for Hughes wholly-owned subsidiary HNS were $196.8 million, representing an increase of $18.6 million when compared to revenues of $178.2 million recorded during the same period in 2005. Net income improved by $14.6 million to $194,000 during the first quarter, when compared to a loss of $14.4 million for the same period last year.

Story from today
http://www.sys-con.com/read/238320.htm
Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the world's leading provider of broadband satellite network solutions and services, today announced the introduction of a new broadband satellite platform, the HX System, a cost-effective solution for smaller networks that provides high Quality of Service (QoS) and employs the most efficient implementation of the DVB-S2 industry standard with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM). The HX System is also compliant with IPoS (IP over Satellite), the first global satellite industry standard approved by TIA in North America, and ETSI and ITU in Europe.

Also a hugh anouncement from BP.
http://www.hns.com/HUGHES/Doc/0/178...lects_Hughes_for_nationwide_bband_service.htm
BP Corporation North America Inc. Selects HUGHES for Nationwide Broadband Managed Network Services
Germantown, Md., June 20, 2006—Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the global leader in broadband satellite network solutions and services, today announced that it has signed a contract with BP Corporation North America Inc. for Hughes to provide HughesNetTM Managed Network Services connecting BP’s retail locations nationwide. The four-year contract includes the installation and management of both DSL and satellite broadband technologies at over 10,000 retail locations. The fully integrated, managed broadband network includes the migration of the network to IP, supporting new point-of-sale systems, and providing a platform for the delivery of potential future bandwidth-intensive applications yielding increased productivity and an enhanced retail experience for BP’s customers. More than 2,000 sites have been installed to date including both VSAT and DSL technologies.

I think the thread title should be changed. ;)

This link is for a company "GotSky" that sells Wildblue. Its not Wildblue. I called and they told me you have to subscribe to the highest package which is 79.99 for 1 year for the free equipment. So you would be making the cost of your internet service go up if you went from Hughes to this either $20.00 or $10.00. Not that great of a deal.

:( sad to say but they have installers right where they want them. if there was a larger volume of installs then installers could demand more and should get more. i was looking at dishnetworks job posting a call center rep makes $12-14 hour installers get $12hour flat with a hundred times the responsibilities and a hundred times the knowledge

yeah they do ....thats why i am looking for something else...i really hate that though i enjoy the work and am actually pretty darn good at it i just cant keep it up with the riseing costs and no extra compensation

Hughesnet Products

I find even their best products almost impossible to sell. If it was not, they would have more than 275,000 customers.

you say it's not that great of a deal wildblue is 299 for the satellite and modem and free installs vs. the 600 it costs for hughes? get a life

I believe we have proven that Hughesnet is a lousy service....lets close this thread.

I love you guy's who have no idea what you are talking about. You see that BP announcement I posted last year? We are still working on that contract. I just completed week 71. Can your Wildblue service give you that kind of job sercurity? No they shut half the beam down on you guys after a premature start. As I said before Hughes is doing just fine and will continue. Make all the accusations you want but Wildblue will never be able to compete with them in the Enterprise market.

I would like to know how you proved Hughes is lousy also. This first posted a year ago and nothing has come of it. Were is the hardship?

Check the Better Business Bureau on Hughesnet and DiRECWAY. It is one of the lowest rated service providers in the Country.

The company's size, volume of business and number of transactions may have a bearing on the number of complaints received by the BBB. The complaints filed against a company may not be as important as the type of complaints, and how the company has handled them. The BBB generally does not pass judgement on the validity of complaints filed.

You are trying to give false information about a company you don't know about.

lol seems like someone is going to cry since his beloved hughesnet is a horrible system....are you sure it's still hughes net? it changes every week dosn't it? directpc, hughes net, directway what is it this week?

Number of complaints processed by the BBB in the last 12 months: 410

Around 350000 customers.

410/350000=.0018

.0018 of their customers made a complaint last year.

yeah those are the ones who called. most ppl aren't going to waste their time making a complaint on them since they've already wasted enough time with them.

I'm sorry who are you?

You guys only hear what you want to. I got Wildblue certified over the weekend and the person giving the class was trying to hand out so much propaganda that it was crazy. He absolutely lied about a couple of points one by saying Wildblue was the first company to have a FAP. You guys probably have never installed Hughes before and go to these Wildblue classes were these guys tell you this and its brainwashing you.

Bottom line I have been using Hughes for 4 years total now. I have never had a problem with it. It does does not matter which system a customer has if it is installed correctly and the customer respects the FAP they will have a good experience.

You guys also don't realize people hate wildblue as well. On DSL reports Wildblue started out around 86% customer satisfaction but have drooped in the 2 years they have been in service to 60% and are constanly dropping. Hughes has had 55% to 57% satisfaction the past three years.

Recent Wildblue review.
GOOD"NONE - ABSOLUTELY NONE"
BAD "HORRIBLE SERVICE, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER AGREEMENT, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER CARE"
: "DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE UNLESS YOU HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE - YOU'RE BETTER OFF WITH DIAL-UP"

This service is a joke - it might be funny one if I were not stuck with this for 10 more months - after paying 300 for hardware.

Their "customer agreement" (i.e. fine print scam) is something that is really a thing of beauty - they must have locked several lawyers in a basement for months to come up with this garbage.

First of all, Wild Blue is not responsible in the least for insuring that your service is at an acceptable level - or even active - they claim to have no responsibility to ensure that you can even access the internet.

What they insure is that your credit CARD WILL BE CHARGED RELIGIOUSLY EVERY MONTH LIKE CLOCKWORK.

Next, they force you to either keep the service an entire year, or just pay for the year of service and not use it - per the "customer agreement" you can not cancel without first paying for the full year’s service charges.

Next (even better) they continuously monitor and limit the amount of bandwidth throughput you can use - both download and upload. They actually encourage users to add the "Usage Page" to your favorites so you can make sure you don't "go over" - if you do go over they will cut your bandwidth down to 128k !!!! down and 28k UP ! for a month - like a cell phone company would shut down your phone - or only let you make calls at certain times of the day. I almost vomited on my computer when the customer service rep explained this to me - as I am one of the many that didn't read the "fine print" before I signed.

The service is consistently slower than their sales team claims - a 512 connection will link at about 350k on a good day - and this is perfectly acceptable to them - because they ALREADY HAVE YOUR MONEY - WHY WOULD THEY CARE???

Hopefully my suffering and writing this review helps someone else that doesn't have access to DSL or cable and is struggling with the idea of Wild Blue satellite.

Recent Hughes review.
Contract price not specified.
Pre Sales information:
Install Co-ordination:
Connection reliability:
Tech Support:
Mail,DNS,News:
Value for money:
(ratings match consensus)
Good "When purchased, it was all that was available besides dial up."
BAD "Not reliable, terrible support,FAP is a joke, usually never get better than 100k download speed"
: "After 3 years of service I can honestly say,Hughes net is the worst service provider available,AVOID at all cost"

I'm done with Hughesnet,I have nothing but a bitter taste left from it.

Beware the 200MB download cap PER DAY from Hughesnet, (FAP) on the home plan$59.99.
The FAP used to be 169Mb per 4 hours !!!
I was never informed of these changes!!!

I'm a Beta tester for stanford university running a program called "Folding at home" on several home based server computers .
»folding.stanford.edu/

I couldnt understand why recently most of my work was getting screwed up on upload, or not uploading at all .
It was the dreaded FAP(un) Fair Access Policy.
Since my results are time sensitive ,weeks of combined computing and work was lost!!!

Also MIcrosoft has some security patches bigger than 200MBytes (such as win XP service pack 2) which are not obtainable with hughes net home .
That means your Pc is left open to all manners of hacking, viruses ,trojans etc...

Go over the cap and hughesnet slaps you with a massive bandwidth restriction !

I know satellite internet has its place ,certain people have no other options available.
I didnt at the time I purchased my system either...

But It really seems Hughesnet is taking unfair advantage of its users, and failing to deliver on the majority of its promises!

So I'm just warning anyone thinking about using the service,Buyer beware!

Getting cable internet service installed tomorrow, which recently became available in our area.
Cant wait for the 10Mbps "rated"downloads!

I'll be selling this $600.00 POS dish on ebay, maybe I can get $100 for it if I'm lucky.

I know Hughes has some bad reviews, but differance in you and me is I am not blind to that fact and am not trying to deface your competition. No matter what type of service someone is offering someone is going to have a problem with it.
