Bose?

How many times do you have to get banned before you realize that BOSE does not belong in a serious speaker thread. They are JUNK.

Since this pot is boiling so well, I think I'll throw in some salt and ask a question.

I am considering replacing my HT speakers near the end of this year. A year or 2 later, I will replace the receiver, after the lossless audio business settles down and prices come down. Currently the receiver is a JVC pushing a 5.1 setup. I mostly use the system for HDTV and DVDs, with a little CD and radio in the mix.

In college, I wanted maggies (or some huge Klipschs) but never sprang for them and no longer want such large speakers. My current speakers are ceiling mounted and I am inclined to continue that approach unless there are good reasons not to. I want good surround effects and a system that most people would be quite happy with for HT purposes. I do not consider myself an audiophile.

Should I stick with 5.1 or consider 7.1? Given the vague comments above, what price range are we talking about? Do you have to spend over $1,000 for a decent set of speakers? $2,000? What speakers should I consider? Yes, I know that's a loaded question, but I am asking about both brand and specific models. I am disinclined to consider four letter word speakers or receivers- Bose or Sony.

Thank you for any opinions to help get me started on researching this topic.

Depends on budget. For speakers I would go with http://www.klipsch.com/product/list.aspx?line=1276&type=All Or http://www.bwspeakers.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.ranges if you have the money, for in wall I would use http://www.klipsch.com/product/list.aspx?line=1263&type=1271 .

For a receiver I would use either http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-NR1000&class=Receiver&p=i Or if you want the WOW factor and have the money I would use http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/226.asp as it has 10 individual amps! and hdmi switching.

But none of these products hold a candle to a lifestyle system, LMAO

Speakers are like cars.....user preference.........some swear by Ford, others Dodge
I've had Bose for 20 years....started out with 301s, upgraded to 501s and then to 901s.........all sounded great (to me) which is who it matters to the most. No use in being hateful to people who spend Their money the way they see fit

No speaker can reproduce all frequencies! Bose does all of the frequencies needed for great quality sound. And audible to the human ear.

Show some proof that Bose can reproduce all frequencies audible to the human ear.

well put.

I bought a Bose satellite surround sound 10 years ago for a few reasons:
1. I was living in a condo and needed small speakers (and really couldn't crank it up)
2. wife wouldn't go for big speakers in the living room.
3. I had small child and liked the mounting on the wall instead of stands.

the Bose system sounded great in the living room, but then I bought a house about
5 years ago, I decided to build a home theatre room.
when I installed the Bose system in the new room and cranked it up(for the first time ever!) that's when i realized what everyone was talking about, (crackle, pop, crackle).

I still have the Bose system, but I know in a couple of years I am going to be looking for a new surround sound system and Bose won't be considered!

Because if you do tests, they can. I did tests from 30hz to 20,000khz and heard all of them. I don't know about 20hz but thats not important for music and movies. I'm pretty sure thoughj that bose can reproduce freqencies below 20hz.

LMAO sure. They have been tested and fail miserably. You need a 12 inch speaker at min to move enough air to reproduce 20hz. Do you think its a gimmick that EVERY other speaker company uses bigger speakers? Do you think if BOSE is on to something special, the theater mags would review them? Why are they the only ones that will not release the feq response of their speakers?

Also, If Bose is so horrible, then why do they sell more sound equipment than any other company. Even if there advertising in convincing, when people try it for themselves it sounds go or better that there old stereo so they keep it. Bose has a 30 day money back guarantee so if you don't like it, return it. And let me tell you, I have been in the Bose store sooooo many time and not once see one persin return a product.

Infomercials with misleading advertising and lies swindling uneducated buyers with money to burn

Bose and I beleive you should buy speakers based on how you think they sound, not on the specs and to most people, Bose sounds good so people get them.
In other words, If Bose can trick its consumers its OK.

Bose isn't tricking people!!!!! If somebody doesn't like the product, they can return it. They are not lying! Most of the time, the Bose product purchased is superior to the product they replaced so people keep it. If someone thinks the speakers are terrible, fine, return it.
