Bose?

I have a set of 501's that are 19 years old or so and are still thumping along. Are they the best, probably not but they sound fine to me. If I was going to upgrade my home theatre speakers, I would certainly shop around. And I put Monster cables on my home theatre 9 years ago, would I do that again, no way in HELL>> Would I buy more Bose Speakers, probably from what I have read and heard these days, I would look real hard at some of the other brands mentioned. 9 years ago, the educational and research tool known as the internet wasn't available to me to make informed decisions and Bose made some decent speakers back then.

I've found this thread very interesting. As an ex-Bose employee, reading directvfreak's responses was like a really bad acid flashback. Either he works for Bose, or he's spent way too much time in their stores talking to the "demonstration specialists."

I've found the way they sell their products is misleading, often facilitated by lies by the 'smooth-talking' salesmen, and the smoke-and-mirrors presentation engineered by Bose is also there. I don't think anyone who's bought Bose products has been automatically scammed. The simplicity of use is a major plus, and the quality of sound exceeds that of other HTIB's. But for those serious about sound, the audiophiles, satellite speaker systems take a major back seat to full-range, full-size drivers.

When it comes down to it, Bose is a rip-off for the price-conscious consumer. Their demonstration tactics remove any objective analyses from the equation of testing actual quality. You'll notice that they focus on the intensity of the scene's orchestration instead of the tonal qualities to the sound. There's a million things I could say about that company but I couldn't remember it all for one post. If you want to ask me anything and if its BS, just ask.

By the way, the ADAPTiQ demos are all rigged. No computations or adjustments are done in real time. These demonstrations are just simulations and I can prove it.

Typically when someone lies about their product and its low priced I dont really mind its typical. But Bose really upsets me. They advertise that they are the best but they also charge like it too. They charge premium prices for crap! And that wrapped in lies is the real problem. The funny part is, even the intelligent fall for it. The marketing and deception is that good. My father bought bose 5.1 a long time ago and still has it. my sister with a masters degree (4.0 GPA), a director of the hospital nursing school and her rocket scientist husband at NASA bought bose 5.1 systems! I just keep my mouth shut, but everytime I see it I silently shake my head.

I can see why you en ex- bose employee, I would dump you too if you didn't like Bose. No I don't work for Bose. I like them because they are the best speaker for the dollar.

And also, would you rather say I own polk speakers or Bose??? If you say Bose, people automatically think rich $$$ and good sound and Polk, just another crappy speaker.

I used to do commercial sound in the Boston area. At the time (back in the 70s), They gave me 6 or 8 901s to try using for sound reinforcement. They were terrible! They had no projection, were incredibly inefficient (we called them space heaters) and did not have good frequency response.

For a home stereo, they would face 8 of the speakers to the wall and one at the listener because they said that 90% (or 80% or something) of sound was reflected. That explains why, when I went to the Boston Symphony, 8 violinists faced the back of the stage and only 1 faced the audience.:)

An audiophile speaker that required hundreds of watts to make it listenable, along with a required equalizer to make it listenable has never been my definition of a high quality speaker. High-priced? Yes.

My only experience with their newer products is that they seem awfully expensive for what they are.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but if you think your Bose sound better than the Paradigm Performance System 1, then you are beyond help, I am sorry. It's just that simple. Actually, if you think the Bose sound marginally acceptable, you are beyond help. I am really sorry. There are alot of speakers out there in that price range that have excellent sound. NONE of them has the Bose name on them.

I went to one of their demo in their presentation room with a friend. When he confronted the person hosting it about how it's rigged, a manager type came in and told us to leave or they call security. We said go ahead. When the security came, the guy was laughing and agreed with us! They got frustrated and went to sucker someone else.
