Given the apparent hard-sell D* is going to begin in the wake of E*'s imminent loss of Distant Networks, would you switch to them, just for the distants?

My answer is no. But I still have Locals, and I no longer watch Distant nets since there is no HD feed of them available to me (other than CBS West). Plus, D* can not compete when it comes to the variety of my HD channels.

I've never used the Distant Networks as I am within the Chicago market and have had all of my locals available since I subscribed to Dish. Frankly, though, I watch so little "network" TV, that I probably wouldn't miss it much if I did lose it.

I just realized that "maybe" and "not sure" are pretty much the same thing! Oh well... nobody has selected those anyway :D

Locals in my are only offered by Dish anyway. I guess I'll just have to substitute my distants with my locals.

The address I use for distants does not qualify for D* distants so if I can I will get an RV waiver, if that does not work, it looks like Canadian sat.

Since I am in Seattle I could still get locals since the west coast feeds for Can. sat are out of Seattle

This will end up saving me about $6 a month. Since I upgraded to a 622, and have my HD locals, I don't watch DNS stations anymore.

I "moved" to get Hd locals and they have much better picture quality than the distant networks. With two 622 dvrs that can record up to 3 things at a time , I don't even need the distants for timer conflicts. IN fact I have no more timer conflicts . So I am not missing a thing. I tried Directv 4 years ago and I would go with cable before I go back to them. IF Dish would have finished the sd locals years ago , the loss of distant networks wouldn't matter to anyone but RV and Truck drivers.

Will stay with Dish. Will miss my LA feed of CBS, but hope to keep the HD FEED. Dish can satisfy alot of folks by giving us significately viewed channels and the YES NETWORK.

I use the distants because their PQ is better than my locals. I have not complained to E* about the poor local PQ. As soon as I loose the distants I will be complaining. The PQ has half the color vibrance as the distants. I will also be loosing pro football games from NY and the west coast. I will also loose college football games from outside my area. I will save $11.98 per month and might buy some sport tickets with the savings.

An option that is not in the poll...
Would losing distant networks make you go to your local cable company to which my answer is a definite, unequivical, unwaivering......errr...maybe.

The local cable co is competative with Dish, but the one thing that I have been getting is some alternative to the weather obsessed and graphic-happy local channels that will pre-empt Harry Potter movies because they might offend some people who forgot how to use their TV remote controls to change the channel!

If I have no alternative, I could see where the cable co could offer me at least the same thing I have now for about the same price without having to buy anything.

See ya

If E* isn't allowed to give distant networks how will switching to D* solve the problem? Doesn't the law prevent D* from giving you the distant locals either?

I see by the poll results (so far) that the overwhelming majority will not switch providers when the Big Switch is thrown on 12/1. I also see that many that have posted comments in this thread so far, have other options and may very well of been provided the distants through E*'s fast and dirty qualification process which led to this 8 year legal debacle. I presume my response would be "who cares" if I had the ability to just pick up the remote and punch another channel number to get the networks from my already offered locals or significantly viewed offerings. What would really be interesting to see is the results of a poll where only those respondents who can only get the networks via distant networks service are planning to do come December 1st.

No, Direct is not bound by this injunction and if you qualify for Distants, Direct can and will turn them on for you. You can go to Direct website and put your address in and find out for sure if you qualify.

I don't know how viable this solution might be, but is it possible that E* could supplant the analog networks with their HD cousins and offer qualified distant net subcribers the opportunity to switch over to the HD feeds ?
