How to get Distants from NPS

I called the "automated number" and got a live lady. Bottom line: If Dish is currently providing you LiLs, you do not "qualify" for their distant networks even though you may not be able to receive networks OTA. The way they are connected with Echostar's database, I am afraid the judge will shut them down!

That isn't what happened in my case, though I will have to wait to see if I actually get them. I got qualified and my credit card charged and I do get locals thru Dish. I guess we will have to see how this all shakes out.

Dish is currently providing me LiL, but since I live 60 miles north of San Francisco broadcast towers, All American Direct gave me ABC & NBC from SF and ATL. Don't know why CBS and FOX should be different qualification; I thought they were broadcast from the same Mount Sutro towers and are O & O (Those duplicate SF locals won't do me much good! Will miss LA freeway chases :)

Bob, did she actually say that? Will they qualify if you cancel LiLs?

So basically some people could have to give up some networks entirely (by giving up LiLs) if they don't qualify for all the distants.

This company must be geared up big time. Just got a response about the RV waiver (within 15 minutes this time). It appears I'm out of luck. Will miss the 'early' recording of the shows, I've been used to having them for over 10 years now.

Good luck to the rest of ya!

The website went through for me but amount billed was $0.0 so I called the number and they said would send in waiver request and to wait the usual 60 days to find out.

Walt, At first she could not find my phone number in her records. Then she went away for awhile. When she came back, she said I did not qualify. I asked why, since I have had distant feeds continuously for 16 years. She said it was because Dish is providing me locals.

NPS is also a Dish retailer. I think she looked at the database retailers have access to.

Will try later.

I just called she told me she could not find anything with my phone number. IT is the number that is on my dish account. She told me when this happens it means that i do not qualify. :( I had such happy dreams last night onlly to be smashedddddd this morning lol.

Sounds like "moving" will make sense again for some, if All American Direct survives.

I get LIL stations from Dish but had distant networks out of Atlanta from Dish legally, at least as I understand the law. I had waivers for the locals. Is there anyway to get the Atlanta stations from NPS without losing my local stations?

This is really screwy and it sounds like they're a whole lot more "affiliated" with Dish than we were led to believe.

If they ARE affiliated with Dish, then this whole thing is NEVER going to get through the courts because of the "in concert" part that Greg mentioned.

If they ARN'T affiliated with Dish, then according to the FCC, LiLs from Dish shouldn't matter and why in the heck are they using numbers that relate to our Dish account anyway? In fact, why the heck can't they use an actual prediction model like "E" & "D" do to qualify and then get receiver numbers if and when you qualify?

Hey Bob, if you talk to her again, ask her if you could get them if you drop your Dish LiLs.

Does that mean if I cancel my locals with Dish, I might be able to get my distant channels back?? I called this morning and NPS said I did not qualify even tho I had waivers with Dish. Go figure..

If Robert is receiving distants now and gets LIL from Dish, then unless a mistake was made it is not true you cannot get distants if you get Dish locals. As I posted I did get all the way thru on the automated system and paid by credit card, but have not seen the channels turned on yet. I do get LIL from Dish. I also live in a white area.

Dish LiLs.

I think All American Direct IS using the prediction model. Even though I subscribe to E* San Fran LiL, All American gave me ABC and NBC, but not CBS and FOX. These are the same 2 channels that E* would give me before without waivers. I live 60 miles from the SF transmission towers. Now that I think about it NBC11 and ABC7 are High Band VHF, while Fox2 and CBS5 are Low Band VHF. Since Low Band theoretically travels farther, and I am on the cusp at 60 miles, the model could predict I would get Low Band but not High Band OTA. Tom (Microwave Engineer)
