Seattle HD Locals

Did anyone notice skips on the Replay Tuesday night? Usually NFLHD comes in great for me. This program had about 10 skips where there was actual picture loss. But I'm not complaining, still have power.

No, I didn't notice any skips. But I haven't watched the whole thing is real time yet. I've watched it twice but fast forwarded through most of it.

The game is going to be on NFL Network as a "Game of the Week" Friday, 6 pm PST. It's only a half-hour show, though.

Thanks. Will try to find another showing for the replay and record it. Saw that it was being done on game of the week and have that set to record. Guess it's time to look to the upcoming game with the Bears (where we set things back to the right track on this season).

Joining DISH

Both my 500's and the CM4248 remained aligned. I haven't noticed signal degradation. In fact, since the storm it seems I'm getting a little stronger OTA signal. Lots of trees and branches came down nearby. Power restored while I was at work at 3:30pm Sunday. No damage that I could see to homes in the neighborhood but some big trees did get knocked down. The crews are still working on the downed lines about a block from my house. Sure glad they temp'd to get restoral. After this year I'm definitely going to get serious about a backup power/heat plan.

Thanks for all of the great people at SatelliteGuys and especially the contributors of this thread. I am getting DISH HD installed today; it's *scheduled* for this afternoon.
Perhaps...if they brave the snow/rain/sleet/locusts/earthquakes... :hungry:
Who knows if they will show up today.
I'm NE of Filbert/North Road crossing and we got our power back at the same time as well as friends about 7 blocks South of 164th around 3rd SE.

The next thing is I need an outdoor antenna to pick up that pesky KCPQ.
May 'move'... The snow in the trees is blocking it, though rain seems to help.
Comcast HD DVR problems [my 3416 has vertical echoes from bad oscillator] and a $6 +$2 DVR rate increase is the reason. No waive of DVR fees either. I will keep lifeline basic (for Q13-HD) and a cable modem.
I will save quite a lot as a Platinum sub. I get a free DVR rebate but may get a 2nd 622. Its sounds just great after using Comcast DVR's for 2 years.
Do you guys pay sales tax on DISH? Will update this later if my lets me...she's not convinced yet...

Hope the switch works out better for you than Comcast. It has been disappointing that Dish and Tribune (KCPQ) haven't come to terms yet. Good luck on the OTA. You might want to check this for local help with OTA:

Dan Kurts (at that site) is a great resource as far as scoping out what you are up against and recommending the best antenna. Topography and trees create big variances in OTA signal within neighborhoods. I think you might be lucky with your location NE of Filbert/North Road. You are probably outside of the shadow of the hill that causes me problems. There is a guy just a few blocks away from me that picks up everything with a CM4221. I need to use a heavier duty CM4248 (yagi). (My family thinks I actually enjoy climbing around on my roof.)

I haven't had first hands experience with the Comcast DVR (or DTV) but reading various posts/reviews I think most people rate the 622 as the best around.

Reviewed my bill and did not see sales tax charges.

Interested in how you think the PQ compares between Dish and Comcast.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info!

Well I must wait until the 24th for the install due to the snow. I almost had a next day install. Well this way I can plan my work hours better.

Yeah sometimes I pull in 13-HD with an indoor antenna, sometimes not. I actually had more luck with wet trees than dry ones. I am hoping to point a single antenna to pick 4,5,7,9,11,13,22 with 7 and maybe 4 being finnicky.

I was hopeful this morning it would be warmer and really melt. Tomorrow it might actually melt off of the roof. :D

Tribune's demand that Dish carry KMYQ as well as KCPQ has been a sticking point. I haven't watched a single show on KMYQ even though it has a strong OTA signal. It's got to be a liability for Tribune.

New DISH user initial 622 report

I have been using my 622 successfully for a week now. I'm very happy with it. It's very responsive compared to slow Moto's. I'm able to pick up all the locals with an inside antenna, though there is a magic spot for 13, but then 5 doesn't come in. The problem has been partially solved by totally 'moving' ... Tribune is the loser here, as they don't provide a good signal and they are buttheads about DISH adding MyQ -yeah right.

Voom comes in at 71-74 on T7, 11, 17? and around 83-89+ for others. I've seen just a couple of dropouts on HDNews. Discovery looks exactly like Comcast switching Component 1-1 on a Sunrise show. Starz looks a bit soft, but it is that way with some movies. HBO may be a bit softer looking than Comcast. A big surprise is that the Voom channels and Food HD look amazingly clear. The Seattle/xyz CBS HD's hiccup every so often, but are a backup for me except for Fox. So as long as I get my rebate I'm very happy so far.

"moving" for fox hd

I am in zip 98382. KCPQ ticks me off. I'm spoiled by HD specially for football and 24.

Anyone have an idea as to where I could "move" to and recieve Fox in HD. 60 miles of mountains and hills to the southeast prevent the use of an OTA antenna. :(

Where to? I briefly tried Portland but found it's out of the spotbeam. Do you still have guide info for OTA? I lost mine when I tried Portland. Couldn't think of anywhere else to try that wouldn't lose Fox Sports NW.

What kind of antenna are you using for OTA? It's not a thing of beauty but I've had decent luck with a CM4248 (BIG yagi).
Did you get a seperate 24 inch dish for 129?

I read all these posts about VOOM looking bad. Have to agree with you, the PQ I see looks better than HBOHD or StarzHD (although since they converted StarzHD to full MPEG4 it looks much better to me.) HDNet Movies also a big plus.

You guys might want to try Yakima; it might work for you... Wonder what their local news looks like... Actually I moved to Chicago. I've seen an occasional burp of green squares that some others have seen on Chicago ABC and I had seen on KIRO-HD on DISH. All the DISH locals and VOOM look much better than what people describe. It is much better than I expected. Food HD looks supurb. Only fast moving scene changes and flashes of light -may- cuase some pixelization. Heck we see that with OTA 5 and 7 here around Seattle. They are both somewhat bitstarved due to their subchannels; why maybe their equipment is old.

I have a separate DISH 500 for 129. Installer didn't have a 24"... I'll find out how the weaker transponders work when we have some more cloudy rainy weather...

I'm using a 12 or 14 inch long indoor antenna for OTA here. It sits on top of my stereo speaker, sort of hidden. I need to place it high on top of my audio receiver for Q13 and point it about 20 deg. more W from S-SW. This would only work on the hilltops with no metallic insulation in the house. I am at a high location and 2nd story as well. I must just make it over a hill by Brier around Hilltop Elementary. You can see the Magnolia towers from the new development by Damson and Logan Rd.

I still get OTA guide data for Seattle-I will check 10-12 days out. There is more information now for OTA. The program guide is in Central time, but I'm getting used to it. You will lose FOXNW though if you move out of WA or Portland.

That's encouraging that you get the guide data for Locals. That's what I read everywhere else. Didn't work for me when I tried Portland. Didn't get Portland or keep the Local's guide. Maybe you need to be successful on the move to keep the Local's guide. Did you have to do a check switch before Chicago showed up? On the other hand, have you done a check switch since Chicago showed up?

I'll have to chew on whether I want to pass on FoxNW. I think I'd miss the M's too much. Even though I know they are going to be crummy again this year. I don't see Yakima HD on 129 or 110 looking at http://ekb.dbstalk.com/129list.htm so I don't know if that's an option. I'm thinking LA being on TP10 and 19 off 129 might work for me. Plus is that it is Pacific Time.

If you can get OTA with an indoor you are in good shape. If you wanted to try something bigger you would probably do great with a CM4221. They aren't that large and you could probably hide it somewhere if that's a concern. It's not too directional so you wouldn't need to repoint to get KCPQ. They are inexpensive too.

>>No, I had to call DISH a second time before the Seattles went away and Chicago's showed up. They forgot to change the locals. You will lose your HD/SD Sat. local timers I believe.

"On the other hand, have you done a check switch since Chicago showed up?"
>>Yes, no problems.

>>Thanks! Getting 13-01 [signal 63-66] without killing 05-01 (kinda directional but kinda strong 75-78+) or 4 is tough. 13 may have a few minor dropouts too. I have not gotten 09-05 though I do get 09-01 is odd too. So with one location I get everything but 13 and 9 ?? in HD, even most of the shopping channels. :D
I lived by Lake Stevens before the Fall of 2005 and was totally reliant on Comcast, even for analog. Some guy used to have a rooftop antenna 60' up in a tree for better reception on my street  , about 18' above lake level. FM was even hit or miss there...

VIP 612 HDMI sucks
