What is it? I just installed an HR20-700S receiver. It seems to be working just fine. In the box were two 'B Band Converters' with a wiring diagram. There is no indication of what they do or if they are needed for all installations. Should I add them to the receiver or are they only needed for certain circumstances?

The B Band converter will be neccesary later this year when the new Mpeg4 sats go up,they are not neccesary right now. They will take the Ka signal on the RG6, and put it in the right frequency that you reciever needs. If you are forgetful (like me!) or are just afraid of misplacing them I would throw them on the back of the reciever....also just a warning some people have had problems with the b band converters going bad and not letting signal through, if you experience problems hook your RG6 into the reciever (bypassing the converters) first as part of your troubleshooting!----remember thats just a word of advice for the future, I have mine on and havent had a bit of problems.

One more thing, DIrectv is working on a new switch that will allow their signal to be put on one RG6 run (yeah no more dual runs!!) if you get this switch the B band converters are no longer neccesary as the switch will take care of all.

I will double check, but and I could be wrong, B band converters were only for the KA sats...you could be right George--do you have a link to educate me a little :)

Um, Spaceway 1 and Spaceway 2 are Ka birds. Anyhow, the B-band converts have to do with the way the signal is stacked on the RG-6 cable to work around the current 13V/18V/22KHz tone scheme. Once SWM is deployed, things will become much simpler.

okay, we are both on the same page here, when I said Ka sats, I was also figuring that my first post would be added into the equation...but for sake of simplicity the Converters are neccersary for the new sats that go up later this year (hopefully both of them) as I suggested before, throw them on now and you are all set...you will see no degrade/upgrade in signal.
