622 L4.01 To Spool on Thursday! (Not sure WHICH thursday though)

They do, do this... :)

The Big HD is to show that the Channel Broadcasts in HD, and the description of the program tells the viewer is the program is in not.

Many folks with HD dont realize the real HD channels are in the 9400 range. I myself did not realize this (and how stupid some people can be) until I went too one of Dish Networks call centers and found this was a COMMON issue.

I'm not talking about in the description... I'm talking about an icon in the shows name in the guide... hell, they could use the same icon they plan to use for the hd channels.

But as I said, it shouldnt be a "this or that" thing, they should do both, if they wanna put a little "hd" icon for the people that dont read their 5 different opportunity channel guides (seriously, i felt bombarded when i signed up for service, and see it on the website, in the box for the 622 AND via us postal mail a week later), thats fine, just add an icon to the show if its REALLY in hd as well. The description info sometimes SUCKS in the program guide... often either cutting off info, or listing it in an inconsistant way (description, cast, year), or (cast, description year) etc...

make it consistant, and put an hd logo on the show itself if its in hd. Help us all out dish!

Doesnt D* already do this?

One problem is that the info comes from a 3rd party (Tribune)

To me, an even more useful bit of info would be a feature that my HDTV's built-in tuner has. My TV displays the resolution info in the program info banner. For example, it displays 720p or 1080i.

Imagine if dish included the resolution info (both dimensions) as part of the program info screen - perhaps a corresponding icon, too!

I know this is a huge hot-button issue for lots of folks; so much so that terms have been coined to describe the differences. It just seems to me that the technology has become so advanced that suppressing this info is contrary to the whole concept of HD, satellite TV, et al.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers,
Red

I just noticed they do this for satellite (dish) as well. However, all of the tnt-hd shows are showing as "hd" (with the icon by the show name on zap2it).

Did you know that 60% of people that own HDTV's think they are watching HD and they are not...? "You mean S-Video isnt for HD?"

The problem then is not with Dish, but whoever provides the guide data. I have NEVER seen that description not say "HD" for any show on a HD station. I've seen stretch-o-vision, 4x3 with black bars and 4x2 with HD bars (ESPN), and all claim HD.

So, if we can't complain to Dish on that, who gets the angry emails? This is a pain for me too, because I like to DVR SD anytime that I'm getting SD inside HD.

I am glad to hear what you said though about them reading this forum. I was one that complained that I didn't want the HD channel totally replaced, so I was glad to see that they came up with one option that we suggested (both on same channel) and a really cool one that was more than I expected. (DishPass HD choice).

Dish, please, make yourself at home here!

This brings up an important question... say there is a show in 4:3 on a&e hd, (its obviously sd, this show i mean), well, the same show is on a&e...

so according to the new update, it will probably try to do the a&e hd station, thinking its HD, but its not! so if they cant get good guide data, COUGH TNT HD COUGH, then what use is the feature?

its like you said, they all claim hd, and about 20% arent!

What happened to the plan or idea that they would "replace" HBO (ch 300) with HBO-HD on HD receivers ?? Same with ESPN vs ESPN-HD, TNT and TNT-HD, etc, etc ??
It doesn't work for all the channels. Take Food HD for example. The programming schedule and shows is vastly different between HD and SD, so I would not want Food HD replacing Food SD. :no

Did i read that the reason why this was delayed in the first place was so that they could push the weather channel stuff into this release ... ?

If yes - any idea if it will be included .. or will it be "coming soon" still ?
