622 L4.01 To Spool on Thursday! (Not sure WHICH thursday though)

cosmo: L4.01 was announced on a Tech Chat and scheduled for Dec 2006. There's some discrepency as to when in Dec, but regardless, whether is was Dec 1, Dec 15, or Dec 31st, all came and went with no release.

So only 1Q late from their intended release? Woo hoo!

Still if it released with bugs in the wild that would be a different type of complaining :D

CHeers,

I think if you read back over the last couple days, you'll see that most here aren't disappointed by not having the actual upgrade, but with E*'s constant lack of meeting delivery dates for those updates and new channel offerings (Read some of the older Tech Chat and Team Summit threads for some examples). This latest delay for L4.01 (3/1, then 3/15) may just have put some of us "over the edge".... ;)

Like I said before: Release it when it's ready, let us know when it's out there. We'll report our findings here.

I know that can be frustrating. We all need to keep in mind though that any predicted dates obtained by Dish are unofficial. It's not like they posted a big ad on their website about it. One of the moderators probably got the info as a "tip" after significant pressing for the info. I'm sure it was Dish's goal and belief that they would meet that date, but things happen. I see the same kind of discussions going on at many of the other technology forums I visit. It's a common theme with technology. It almost always takes longer than anyone thinks. Everyone should be quite used to that by now.

I have no real complaints about my box at the moment. I do feel lucky that I don't see many of the issues that others see.

I am more than willing to sit tight and wait for an update when Dish is 99.9% happy with the build vs getting an update just for the sake of an update.

What some of you have trouble understanding or accepting is that you're dealing with a company here that has very little insight into public reaction, no real self awareness and not a lot of smarts in their PR department.

Their number one priority is "appearance at the moment" and sometimes they get so absorbed with it they loose sight of reality. They're so used to it (the illusion), I think it actually surprises them sometimes when they're not able to follow through.

A classic example is MPEG4. Obviously they had no clear understanding of it when they started all the hype and it's only now they may be starting to actually make some headway. Had it been even close to working like they "predicted" when they said, they never would have had to go the "make-pretend" it's MPEG4 route to force people to upgrade their hardware.

The point is Dish just can't resist making something appear more than they are capable of fulfilling. Maybe it's a result of Charlie using the "bluff" so much in poker - who knows - but the result is their loss of credibility with many of us that have been around them a while.

We used to get beyond some of the Dish BS by what Scott and others could dig up from inside sources but I think Dish has even started to manipulate that too.

Too bad, because SatGuys is a powerful conduit to Dish's customer base and if used right, a valuable resource for them. Instead, Dish sees us as just one more venue to try and Bullsh!t. Apparently they're too dumb to see that we can influence public awareness with not just the good but the "bad and the ugly" too. bandito.gif

I agree with a lot of what you said, and we are all too aware of DISH's embarrassing software release schedule. That being said we all know it and to some extent accept it. What seems to stir everyone up and create hostility toward DISH are the post on this forum that the software will be release this thursday then it doesn't happen. DISH has a hard enough time meeting schedules spoken on the Charlie and Tech Chats. Much less someone that gets so called inside info from the installer that lives down the street.
If any of the inside information or future release dates posted here were correct a third of the time, I would say keep posting. But like I said before my Magic 8-Ball would be right more often, so posts of deadlines that come and go don't do anyone any good, it hurts DISH's credibility (when they didn't post it) and the POSTER's. Of course a lot of you here want to ignore that the poster is NEVER right and direct your anger at DISH.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't find anything here that's worth getting upset about. It should be a given that all dates, features etc are subject to change. I suggest those that can't handle schedule changes join the 99% of Dish customers that are blissfully ignorant of all of this, after all it's only TV.

Dish actually made a public announcement concerning Thursday. While the info posted here was prior to that public announcement, it was solid information. See the link for the public announcement.

Ok here is the scoop.

The software engineering team are REALLY excited about L4.01, and they know you all have been waiting for it.

When the release was green lighted I was notified as were the other sites. We had it on our homepage as they did.

In fact Dish Network had it listed on their website.

When release day came along it was not spooled. In fact from what I can tell NONE of the software which was supposed to spool on Thursday went out. (not just the 622 software)

I have heard lots of reasons why it didnt go out and not one of these reasons matched what others in the company has told me. In fact the best response about why it did not go out was someone who appologized and that he was "deeply disapointed" that the software did not spool.

The 622 team is working hard to make the L4.01 release the best software update ever. And I got to say from everything that I have seen of this release, I honestly believe them.

It will be here, and when it comes it won't be soon enough. But until then my 622's all continue to work flawlessly.

As I said before, if I get information which I think is credible I will pass it along. If you don't believe me read my signature below. :D

Scott, I thank you for the information. After seeing this issue (late software releases) so many times I truely believe that the external hard drive has never really worked and that they are still trying to get it to work. This would be the reason it hasn't been released yet. We all know that DISH is great at saying something works and then being really late (4.01) or not happening at all. (NBR for 5XX receivers).

If DISH is so excited about this software they should be jumping out of their shoes for the EHD (External Hard Dirve). I really think if EHD was out now they would be selling 622 left and right. I don't believe the wait is to figure out pricing or anything like that just the fact it isn't truely working right.

Now back to the 4.01 issue. I look forward to getting it but just have no confidence in DISH to get it released before the start of April.

That makes no sense.... and as you say, stories don't match up. They problem seems to be that their magic software spooler tool just didn't work ??

Its possible as the other software updates for Thursday also did not go out.

Just something else to make you go hmmm. :)

And remember that the folks who write the software are different then the people who actually spool it.

My daughter-in-law writes code. She tells me that a program might work fine in simulation, but once it is released to the customers is when the bugs show up especially if the harware does not take the update correctly. Very confusing to me. I just wish Dish would forget about making all these announcements and just make the receivers work as well as possible. I would guess 99.99% of Dish customers have no idea what there software version is and/or could care less.

Yes but none of the software that was supposed to go out Thursday went out.
