Personally I like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. But a friend of mine sent me this commercial from Down under, I want to try it just because of the commercial!

When I drink beer: Corsendonk, Trois Pistoles, La Fin Du Monde ("The End of the World")
Just under room temp.

I like the Pilsener-Lager and Amber-Ale I make at home during the summer, but as far as cheap, easy too find, off the shelf, every day retail beers, I like New Belgium's Fat Tire & Blue Paddle, Fosters, Killian's Irish Red.

Although I prefer Bourbon!

my parents raised me right. i was brought up on the KING of beers....budweiser, of course! live in st louis and dad worked for them might have something to do with it!

I drink anything made by Budwieser most of the time, usually either Bud or Bud Select.
Also enjoy a Killian's Irish Red, but only when it's on tap, not a big fan of it bottled.

Wow 9% alcohol content on one of those!

I like Newcastle Brown Ale
That's the result of the "triple fermentation". We homebrewers do at least a double fermentation - once while brewing then once again in the bottle for the natural carbonation. I often add a second fermentation step in the carboy before bottling, so I also have a triple for those beers. My highest has come in around 9% as well, but that's by weight (determined by a specific gravity measurement) vs. the "by volume" values sometimes seen on American beers and the one in the picture. Most of the rest of the world uses the weight convention. FYI, the "by weight" value is about 80% of the "by volume" value, i.e., 9% by weight would be over 11% by volume. This is a place where truth in advertising would be appropriate. Neither is wrong, but one needs to understand the difference, not that there really is one. 9% or 11% - who cares? It will be really kick-ass stuff...!

I also like Newcastle. It's on draught in a few places around here...

Well, that's debatable, but to each his own...!

Do you (anyone?) know why Americans "enjoy" their beer ice cold...?

In my opinion, "ice cold" lessens the flavor and thus hides flaws. I prefer my beer a little under room temp. That's when I drink beer. Single malt scotch is my drink of choice. Specifically isley single malts. Always straight and room temp in a warmed snifter.

BINGO - We have a winner...!! When you throw an ice cold beer into your hatch, your tongue is immediately NUMBED so you taste almost nothing! I too prefer beer at near room temp., like the Brits. That's when the true flavor and aroma are available. Try most American beers at that temp. and they taste like cr@p!

As I mentioned in another thread, my determination of a good beer is the "next day" test, when you find that forgotten mug of beer from the previous day/night/fog. If you can pick it up and resume drinking like nothing happened and it still tastes GOOD (and probably even has some carbonation left if it was naturally carbonated in the first place), THEN you have a GOOD BEER!

As John K. sez - Cheers...!
