How To Hook Up A 61.5 Dish To A 110/119/129 Dish

I am having a new 1000.2 dish installed on Monday in order to receive programming (RSN HD) off 129. I currently have two dishes (Dish 500's), one dual LNB pointed at 110/119, one single LNB pointed at 61.5.

I read about the Dish 1000.2 and it indicates that the Dish Plus Pro Twin LNBF will not work with a DP34 switch (I have three). The manual says a Dish Pro Dual LNBF will work with a DP34 switch.

I also want to keep the 61.5 dish to be used in the future for my local HD channels when they become available.

So my question is; It appears that the 1000.2 will have three cables going to my DP34 switch(s). The DP34 only allows three cables to be attached from the dishes.

My contact at Dish said to have the installer "install an external switch to tie in the 61.5 location".

Does anyone know what this external switch is?

I need to be able to talk inteligently to the installer on Monday.

I also realize that a DP44 switch will work but am not sure if Dish will stand the $525 cost for three of them to replace the DP34's I currently have.

Any suggestions on how to tie the 61.5 dish in with the 110/119/129 dish?

Your work order should call for a 44 switch because you are adding a 4th orbital location. You will need to connect both 622's, the 942, and one of the single tuner receivers to the 44 switch, and then trunk the 34 switch off of the 44 to run your other two single tuner receivers. You will only need one 44 switch and one 34 switch. Also, ask the installer to set up a third Dish500 for 129...this will give you a better signal strength than a 1000.2

Edited for clarity: With the DPP 44 switch you will only need one line to the dual tuner receivers. You will need a seperator for each dual tuner receiver, hopefully your tech will have some extras.

if you dont mind me asking, what area are you in that the RSN is on 129 and the HD locals "may" be on 61.5? I thought Dish had both on the same.

There is no reason to have an external switch if you're getting a D1000.2. The LNB is capable of handling 110, 119, and 129...and a 4th orbital. It should be just a simple matter of connecting your 61.5 to the LNB input (assuming the 61.5 LNB is a DP Dual or Single).

Just out of curiosity, how many receivers are you planning on having hooked up?

I live on the west side of Michigan. Detroit gets their SD locals off 110, and HD locals from 118, so it is difficult to determine where the Grand Rapids DMA HD channels will be in the sky when they become available.

I want to keep my options open to possibly repoint the 61.5 dish for HD locals or have as a back up in case there are problems with receiving 129 that I hear so much about.

I believe someone else suggested having a single dish just for 129.

Still digesting all this information in order to make the right decision.

Thank you for your help!

I have two 622's now and will have a third 622 installed on Monday. I also have two 510's and a 301.

From what I understand, the 1000.2 comes with a LNB that is not compatible (Dish Pro Plus Twin) with all the DP34 switches that I have. I read that it must be replaced with an LNB that is compatible with DP34 switches. The replacement LNB does not have a provision for a fourth input, from what I can determine.

If Dish will stand the cost of how ever many DP44 switches I need, that seems like the best solution.

With DP44's, I could leave the 61.5 where it is, continue to use the Dish 500 for 110/119, and have a third dish installed for 129. If my HD locals end up on 118 or somewhere else, I would have the option of repointing the current 61.5 dish.

Any other thoughts would be much appreciated. This is getting complicated for this old retiree's brain.

Thanks for your input!

Ok, this finally makes sense. I remember reading about the DP44 being able to feed each 622 with just one cable and a seperator. I did not realize that a DP34 could be daisy chained to a DP44.

The only 'problem' would be that you can only connect 3 orbitals to the 34 switch, but you shouldn't need 61.5 or 129 for either of your SD receivers so this shouldnt be a problem anyway. Also keep in mind that 118 is a FSS satellite and can't be picked up without a 500PLUS or 1000 PLUS dish or a SuperDish.

If you're counting on Your HD locals to be on either 129 or 118, you'd better hold your cards, They could go almost anywhere.

And with Dish putting up two more satellites, they could go on them. I'd setup my system to suit my needs TODAY and not worry about tomorrow or next year, or the year after that...
