Weather Channel HD possible Clue?

Well folks always need to remember that SD Channels will look average on a HD TV. Again it's just that a HD TV Not A SD TV which SD Channels will look clear. So point is SD Channel will not always look as clear on a HDTV like they do on a old SDTV.

Weather Channel in HD Worthless? Never!

There are those of us who watch The Weather Channel religiously. Up converted is acceptable to us. Real HD - Heaven!

Are we sick? Of course.

Are there lots of us? You bet.:yikes

I am actually looking forward to watching The Weather Channel in HD. It would make seeing the graphics and radars much better and then the enhancements they will have next year when they make it specifically for HD will make it even better.

They have shows on The Weather Channel involving weather and they show webcams on cities from time to time and the natural environment in addition to the graphs on the screen. Seems like a PERFECT fit for HD to me, just like The Discovery Channel is. If there is a channel that should be in HD, its The Weather Channel.

Did anyone else catch this? It is nice to see DISH and Weather Channel teaming up on shows like this. The fact that it was in HD and would be airing in the fall makes me wonder what else DISH is up to with the Weather Channel.

I saw this commercial on ESPN HD this past Sunday night. The commercial was in HD, but there was no mention of anything HD in the commercial at all.

In case anyone wanted more slam dunk proof of Weather Channel HD on Dish, check out tonight's NASCAR Busch Series race in Indy...the #60 Dish Network car has it's usual Dish Network sponsorship across the sides & back half of the car, yet the hood his a giant "Weather Channel HD" logo on it!

Dish is giving out sports bottles @ NASCAR events that say DISH on one side and weather HD on the other.

Dish will get this channel but if we get the hd version before mid 2008, it will be upconverted to hd.

Yep, that's the thing. I'm fairly sure E* is going to pick up this channel, but it will be an upconvert for several mths before it is HD

You could NOT be more WRONG. Weather channel HD will have plenty of HD at launch. The production companies that do Storm Stories, etc., have been working in HD for a while, and all the live studio and remote stuff will be in HD day one.

The old stuff will be upconverted, but there is not that much old stuff. Weather Channel is one of the easier converts, because they don't have a lot of legacy stuff in SD. Much like ESPN. All it takes is money for production equipment (cameras, etc.).

Not only that, but the upconverted stuff on Discovery looks pretty good. Certainly better than plain SD.

Um, you should probably check your facts. They (TWC) have said that they will not go HD till next year. So if it "launches" this year it won't be in HD it will be upconverts.

I work outdoors and travel a lot. I have to keep up with what the weather is doing. I can't sit around and wait for the local news for the forecast and my laptop is not always handy. Whenever I'm in a new town, TWC is one of the first channels I look for when I check into a motel room. I really look forward to TWC in HD when I happen to be working near my home.

Also in that article:
Construction on the studio is expected to be completed in February, with the actual on-air date in June.

When the Weather Channel HD launches Oct. 1, it will premiere two original long-form series in pure HD: “Epic Conditions,” a show about perfect weather meeting perfect sports, such as big-wave surfing in Hawaii, and “Weather Ventures,” which highlights dream weather destinations.

The network says it will be upconverting content for a while, but hopes to eventually shoot 90 percent of its programming in high definition.

A lot of that depends on your TV. I have a 65-inch Mitsubishi DLP set, and SD looks fantastic on it! I have seen many other big-screen sets that didn't have a very good SD picture though.
