Internet TV - What are my Options?

I get most of my news, weather, etc. via my PC. But that's requires an active (mouse, keyboard) input. There are times I want passive entertainment, that's where a TV excels. I watch zero serial TV shows, and few movies, just educational programming, news and some NFL when in season. Where I...

    DVR service fee

What are the current options to get rid of the dvr service fee? I'm a light TV user with the $20 Welcome Pak and a old DVR that I own. Tried to search on "dvr service fee" in titles, two different errors and I quit. Thanks

DVR 612 to 2 HD TVs via an HDMI Switch or Spliter, No Work, Help

Dish 612 does not like the Splitter Using the PC's HDMI output and the passive splitter, I had no problem running either HDMI monitor or both at the same time. Going back to the Dish 612, once and only once I saw the DVR splash screen and then was able to turn on the DVR and select local...

DVR 612 to 2 HD TVs via an HDMI Switch or Spliter, No Work, Help

Some Success Thanks for the replies, I'm starting to understand what's happening. The switch I showed is backwards, multiple inputs to one HDMI feed, I want the opposite. Since my PC has an HDMI monitor and is infinitely easier to plug and unplug than the DVR, did some test. Using this...

DVR 612 to 2 HD TVs via an HDMI Switch or Spliter, No Work, Help

Is there a basic problem running two TVs (only one on at a time) off a 612 HDMI port via either a HDMI splitter or an HDMI switch? Tried a splitter like this: Then tried an HDMI switch like this: This same switch had previously worked fine connecting an Xbox and Bluray to the primary...

    Satellite Inet or Wireless Broadband?

"over" in this context was meant as "preferred" NOT via satellite. I can see how my word choice might have confused, didn't mean to get your dander up!!! Thanks for the concise reply.

    Satellite Inet or Wireless Broadband?

Very interested in this thread, read all the posts. I currently have terrestrial wireless (basically 802.11b with a high gain antenna), gone to hell in the past few weeks and the local company seems indifferent, but cheap $30/mo. I'm solar so power is a concern, needs to be off when the computer...

DISH and nTelos Expand Pilot Program to Develop Fixed Wireless Broadband Service

I currently have fixed wireless internet service. However, it would never be labeled "Broadband" more like barely faster than dial-up. It's all you can eat and cost much less than satellite. Still when you're Off-the-Grid, any internet is better than no internet.

    LNB Power?

Will it record Dish content or just OTA? Also, what power supply? I remember testing a 380W Earthwatts PS, it used 8 watts just to stay on and that was the best of all the PS's I tested.

    LNB Power?

My wee brain figured out this simple test just before you posted. Just did the test on my 612 DVR. With the coaxial cable (running 2-LNBs, haven't yet upgraded to a 1000.2) connected, the 612 settled at 38 watts. Disconnecting the cable, the 612 bounced from 28-29 watts after a couple of...

    LNB Power?

I live solar-electric and simply don't/can't allow a continuous 40 watt draw from any device. Therefore I have an inline switch on any and all devices that have a ghost load. I live on a daily energy budget of ~3KWH. A 40 watt DVR would represent 1/3 of that budget. In the case of the DVR, I...

    LNB Power?

Bit confused, does this mean 3-LNBs use 30 watts? Therefore 10 watts per LNB. If so most of the receiver power is not internal, rather to the LNBs. Thanks for the reply.

    Thank you Dish!!

Got the same card, but curious are you still using a 501? My 501 was obsolete and replaced last year, with a used 512, by Dish. That 512 HDD just died, now running a 612 from ebay.

    LNB Power?

Does anyone know how many watts a typical LNB sucks off the receiver? My "new" 612 DVR sucks 38 watts just plugged in. That's about 25% more than the 512 it replaced and I still haven't added the third LNB for HD.

    Hopper and Joey Energy Usage

My "new" 612 uses 38 watts plugged in. 39 on and 40 recording. From reading this thread it would seem that the Hopper is about the same. Whereas the 722 is closer to 50 watts, gag!
