Switching from Dish Network worth it?

I do imagine the pricing will go up. I do have an advantage of the multi service discount, because I'm getting my broadband from them as well as television - and I'd probably continue to do so if I go to something else for TV.

I'll be on the lookout for that.

Time Warner Cable Exec Pushed Out Over Customer Complaints

Literally one day before this announcement, I had sent mail to one of this guy's direct reports complaining about being unable to get HBO added to my account (very long hold times or the system was down). The VP's office was very responsive then.

Switching from Dish Network worth it?

I made the switch a couple months ago (well, added TW a couple months ago, dropped Dish about 1 month ago) in southern california. PQ is roughly equivalent (some channels better, some worse), the selection is different. I appreciate the extra $10 discount from having broadband internet access...

    Leaving Dish

I have left Dish Network after 8 years, including being an early adopter of the Dishplayer 7100 and Dish 6000. Main reasons were the decline in HD quality, the upgrade path for mpeg4 (I was a $1k 921 purchaser), and the monthly cost. I've gone to the evil time warner cable. In combining...

PBS to DBS: Carry Our HDTV Signals!

I would pay a buck for a national PBS feed, as I used to when they had a national PBS SD feed. We watch PBS a fair amount, although the PQ has suffered now that they multicast (KCET Los Angeles).

Why do people bash Voom? It's great.

I, surprisingly, have watched a fair amount of the Kung Fu channel. They have played a number of the Akira Kurasawa films, which are some of the best foreign films I've ever seen.

    61W in Southern California

I'm east of LA (Whittier) and use an 18", think it used to be a D* dish. Its pointed pretty low on the horizon, but clears the house across the street so I get a signal.

    BluRay cracked

There are DVD changers which can hold a few hundred discs. I'd imagine that HD-DVD and BD changers may exist in the future. My interest in progress in cracking the formats is because I, too, want to be able to put my movies on my server, rip the ads and menus off of them, and have easy...

Any CES E* news on new HD channels

I'm hoping that fttd like fios and 1080p sets will start making PQ a more widespread conversation. It may be a foolish hope.

HD Locals: E* Going In Wrong Direction

There are lots of areas in LA that don't have a direct LOS to mt. wilson, and thus get rather poor reception bounced off another hill or building. I still think its a crappy idea to put HD locals on satellites, but spotbeams make them less wasteful.

Why do we continue to pay for channels..

I would gladly pay a buck or two per channel I watch if I could do it ala carte. Heck, I could pay $5 and maybe even $10 per channel I watch and save over what I'm paying now. I am irked and offended when I see commercials on a premium channel, like on Discovery HD. I don't hold the "bulk"...

Where's the New Dish Info... "DISH Network Offers Free High Definition DVR"

I paid a grand for my 921. Buggy, old 921. Still using it, unable to get all the HD channels, because I'm too cheap to pay to lease.

PR:Americans Score With New Hdtv Sets, But Fumble When It Comes To Getting Connected

I went by a friend's house a month ago, and he bragged about the great HDTV picture he had on his 3 month old DLP (a basketball game). I noticed that it was an analog channel. When he left the room I grabbed the remote and looked around. His Dish installer had hooked it up via component, but...
