    HD Quality Choice

I'm guessing it has something to do with my new cable connection. We just moved and the Charter connection here is 60 mps download speed. I just ordered a new Linksys 6500 router that does AC. If the quality is much higher I will get an adapter that allows me to hook the Genie directly to the...

    HD Quality Choice

Yesterday I went to download a show off on demand and for the first time I get a choice. I can get high quality HD or I can get faster download HD. I've never had this choice before. I understand one is better than the other but does anyone know what formats/quality options are being offered...

    Moving TN to SC alignment

I could not get Jackson TN locals no matter how perfect I aligned it. So I called Directv and had them change my address and turn on the locals here. Now I get local Inman stations and thanks to you guys my channels are solid and clear.

    Moving TN to SC alignment

Thanks guys. I set the 1-10 markers for elevation and compass to 0 and setup my tablet to watch the TV. From my phone I watched the 99 sat then the 103. My signal strength is now over 90 on all transponders and 96 and above on many. Picture is awesome. My HD spots didn't come in so I called...

    Moving TN to SC alignment

Will do. I won't be able to adjust it until tomorrow afternoon. But I have setup my tablet as a webcam across my WiFi so I can monitor the TV screen with my phone so I can do this solo. FYI the app I am using is called IP Webcam it is free and super easy to setup.

    Moving TN to SC alignment

Actually I don't know. We have the sd channels hidden. Question. When adjusting each of the settings, like skew which satellite should I be watching during which adjustment?

    Moving TN to SC alignment

At least I must be close. Attached are screen shots of each one. This turned out to be more difficult than I had thought. Un-boxing a house isn't helping. I may have two in twice doing this on a phone is confusing

    Moving TN to SC alignment

OK I set it all up and have it aligned decently. But my TN locals do not work. Since I would like the major networks how do I get local spots?

    Should I Switch From Cable?

Again, your spouting specs is great. However I see you also mention "under optimal conditions". I guess if I lived near the main Charter feed in town I'd be getting those conditions. But I live at the outside edge of town. Apparently conditions are not optimal for me because out here HD...

    Should I Switch From Cable?

Cable providers use MPEG-2 which uses H.262 compression ok Dish and Directv use MPEG-4 which uses H.264 compression ok To achieve the exact same DVD quality H.262 requires more data ok But to that effect H.264 requires LESS data to achieve the EXACT same level of DVD quality ok Again, I...

    Should I Switch From Cable?

I'm not doubting your list, but where I live it's a choice of Charter ,Dish or Directv We chose Directv because we liked the lineup better. We had Charter for 14 years and still have their internet. The picture quality (at my house) between Charter and Direct is not a comparison at all. On...

    Moving TN to SC alignment

Closed on our house and started working on the things that needed attention. They had not used their irrigation system for two years, but all fixed now. Freakin awesome! I bought a 6 ft pole. However I could only bore/dig into the ground to 21 inches (hard like concrete red dirt). So I set...

    Install Scheduled..Chances of getting HR44 vs HR34?

When the installer calls you to come out tell him you want a HR44. If he doesn't have one reschedule a week later. Keep doing that until they have a 44

    Alignment steps

That being said if this works all I would need is someone at the corners and the center of the US to give me their settings for each type of Directv dish. It could then be calculated for anywhere exactly what angles and compass settings would put you spot on.
