    This is a long shot...King quest vq4100

This is unlikely, but has anyone opened up a King Quest VQ4100? There's a malfunctioning one on CL for $50 and I'm wondering if it would be fun to tinker with to try to turn it into a FTA, motorized dish (but would require changing out the dish and LNB) I'm assuming that there's at least one...

    Are 12' dishes 1-piece? 4-piece?

Really? Yes, those holes are the bad ones. OK, cool. I'll get to stripping. The bolts/hardware are unusable. No big deal though. I would have replaced them with stainless steel bolts anyhow. Anything that will fit in the oven(and tolerate the heat) will get powder coated black. I just opened up...

    Are 12' dishes 1-piece? 4-piece?

Quick update and some requested pics: the LNB is an Echostar LNB-EA030(I have a Titanium C1-PLL C-band Phase-Locked Loop LNBF with WiMax Filter FTA PLL LNB being shipped courtesy of KE4EST) (Thanks!) Feedhorn and integral scalar ring thing is a Chaparral(can't find a model #) There's a servo...

    Are 12' dishes 1-piece? 4-piece?

Last night, I removed a free 8' mesh dish from a couple's back yard. I was excited at first when they said that I could have it(it would be my first dish)...but, on close inspection, I noticed a lot of rust. Some of the radial supports are rusted enough that they have holes. Many of the bolts...

    dead links

Hi, I'm a kinda new member. I'm trying to be a good, non-annoying member who uses the search tool before posting a question. But, in doing my research into this new fascination, I'm hitting some dead ends(dead links). Did Scott change servers back about 10 years ago?

Do big dishes overload sensitive LNBfs?

Yeah, it looks ugly. I'm new to this, so I'm doing a lot of guessing. I'm guessing that they left the mounting pole top open, rain entered, the pole subsequently rusted through, and the dish then fell. Plus one(I agree) on that penetrating oil(I will try Liquid Wrench™). I'm bringing an impact...

Do big dishes overload sensitive LNBfs?

I'm not sure that it's bent or anything like that...but, it sure looks to be unusably rusty. The dish may be in ok shape(literally)

How to tell if FTA product is legit

OK, thanks! I'm trying to get an 8 foot(or 12') dish. I'd like to get C and Ku, so I looked up a Titanium product Titanium Satellite - CK1S C and KU Combo LNBF (it may be discontinued?) and this one: Hot sales High Gain Low noise Universal Dual Band C/Ku Combo LNB LNBF | eBay Have you had...

Do big dishes overload sensitive LNBfs?

OK, cool, I got the OK from the owner to come get it. :) Since you brought up the mount...and its mount is screwed up and will need to be replaced, may I have a recommendation? How have you(+others) mounted yours?(I'm going to run to the search bar to look for posts)

Do big dishes overload sensitive LNBfs?

Ha, well, I've not heard back from the owner yet, so...I don't know if I'm getting it...or any answers for the mount question. Judging by the one pic included in the listing, I'd say that it in effect has no mount as it looks unusably rusty.

    I'm told that it's 12'

Do big dishes overload sensitive LNBfs?

(more newbie Qs) Do big dishes overload sensitive LNBfs? If so, do you move them out of the hottest focal point spot? The reason I ask is that I may be able to get an old, really big, fiberglass dish. I'd like to do a Titanium LNBF like: Titanium Satellite - Store for C-band, and then one or...
