I talked to a Dish CSR. The while the local SD channels come through the satellite feed (depend on your area), the local HD channels have to use an OTA. This is the same case with Direct, although I did hear rumors that Direct would be including local HD channels through their satellite feed...

While we're on the subject of OTA channels, are any of you guys able to get UPN in consistently? Some nights the channel is fine and other nights the channel won't stay in for more than a minute (signal strength fluctuates between 50 and 90). John

I watched Jeopardy on NBC (had to see Ken lose), Pistons game on WB, and can't remember what else (but it was a satellite channel) without any black screens. Oh, I did switch my connection to the component cables too, so it's possible that the DVI connection was the problem (thanks Ilya!)...

Signal quality for ABC and NBC are in the 90s and it's usually pretty stable. I am using the DVI input, so I can try switching to the component input and see if that solves the problem. Thanks Ilya! John

I was getting it last night on OTA channel 4 (NBC). I'm also in the Detroit area, BTW. I don't remember which satellite channels I still get the blank screen with, but I'll jot down what channels I get this with tonight and will post an updated. Thanks! John

I've gotten version 7.26, but I still get occasional black screens on both satellite channels and OTC channels. I've read in the Software Version Fixes/Bugs thread that this is not a software issue. Does anyone know what the definitive problem is that causes this? Is there any fix for it...

This has happened to me too. The channel will be locked onto the same channel, but I can bring up the mini-guide or the full guide just fine. The only way to get the channel to "unfreeze" is to reset the STB.

I tried the first antenna (the feather looking one) when I first got my TV and OTA STB. Worked like crap. My old amplified rabbit ears antenna by Jenkins worked WAY better, but still had to play with the antenna enough that my wife actually brought up getting satellite or cable. I didn't even...

I've only used the DVI cable with the VOOM STB. I actually haven't used the component. I may give it a try this weekend and see if I can see a difference.

I disagree. I've also got a Samsung DLP and any channels that are SD won't work with the DVI connection. It'll work with the component connection though. EDIT* Damn, Ilya you edited your post before I could post mine. :P John

I'm in the Detroit area too and all satellite channels went out when that huge storm came through. I was able to get the OTA channels fine. Once the storm cleared (after about 10 - 15 minutes) the satellite channels came back fine. No picture or sound issues. Oh, and I've got the 18" dish...
