    Just picked up 10 footer

ah yes, the TRX-120. What a well built tank that is. I have one. Works perfectly. Last week I replaced the battery and the display backlights. Should last at least another 20 years I think.

    Polarotor Servo Controller Design

A simple improvement for your RF side is to incorporate 2 inductors in series; one to block RF frequencies (950- 2150MHz) and one for low frequencies (22kHz - if you have switches in your system). In selecting your inductors you must juggle several parameters: Current capacity - since...

    COREAVC updated to 1.9.5

V1.9.0 locks my machine up when I turn on CUDA support (I have a Nvidia 9500 card). Hopefully this fixes that but my machine is still plenty fast enough for software only decoding of h.264 HD.

Low pass filters / Attenuation of DBS signals.

Based on your comments here it wouldn't take much to make RF your specialty. You certainly have the practical/commonsense knowledge that many "RF specialists" I've met do not have. :D The only thing I would add is that the specifications are typical and you may see a bit more or less...

    Cat5 for Control?

I have a 140' run of it I put inside buried conduit 3 years ago for the same reason - I had it on hand. It has performed flawlessly through 3 Canadian winters. Since I'm a compulsive feed hunter the dish is routinely moving from 58W to 116W (my unobstructed line of sight) even when the...

AMC-4 can I pick this up from Canada

Very strong on a 90cm out here in the west. My wife is watching Studio Sportzomer every night during the Olympics. :)

What time zone are you in?

I live in the mountain time zone but am currently in The Netherlands on holiday - 8 hours ahead. .... And you bet I'm bringing home some new toys. :D

TRX-2000 Analog Receiver Backlight burned out!

My super expensive Toshiba TRX-2000 had the backlight burn out this evening. The reciever originally cost me a whopping 30$ on ebay. Now I have to decide whether I look for another receiver or try and repair it. Mostly it's an issue of not wanting to reprogram all my actuator positions into...

    receiver vs. demodulator

Can I ask which unit you are looking at? I worked for them 7 years ago. Strangely, I wasn't into satellite back then as I am now and regret not obtaining some of the "scrap" units that didn't meet spec (but outperform the consumer stuff I have now).

about the change over in 2009?

2011 is the year for us canucks. My 4 year old HDTV doesn't have a ATSC tuner in it. An excuse for an upgrade?:D

    Clear QAM via satellite

8 years ago I worked for a commercial satellite transceiver manufacturer as a design Engineer. At that time we had products that did everything from bpsk to 16 QAM up to 100Mb/s. On an interesting side note, I'm now more interested in satellite equipment now than when I actually worked in...

    virtual pc for mac

The Op is asking about DVB cards to watch FTA on his Mac though. You are talking about using the Mac to load <something?> on to your STB. Just curious...why is your CS5K a doorstop?

    FTA Mac Solutions

I tried this out for kicks on my old G4 867MHz PowerMac with a Skystar 2 (now in my AMD X2 4600 with a second Skystar 2) a year or so ago and found that it worked but was very crude. Best to bite the bullet and get a PC, sadly. I do a lot of streaming to the Mac from the PC though. There is...

    FTA and Diplexer with CATV

I do this for one of the rooms in my house which has digital cable and can see no degradation on either analog or digital cable nor satellite.

    99w Question

Nope not scrambled, they are 4:2:2 video. Check out the DVB card forum for how to decode this. AFAIK there is only one STB that decodes this, the Qualitv receiver. Otherwise you'll need a PC DVB card.
