Also, you might have trouble accessing hardware from within VMware... Might be better off running the PVR and VMware from within Linux, and then Windows within the VMware. Or just forget about Windows and run IceWM/Firefox/etc. :)
I am interested in that as well. Is there any kind of "FTA TV Guide"? It would make FTA much more usable for TV watching (as opposed to just hobbyist use) if you had a guide. I also thing some kind of guide would help me justify buying a PVR of some sort!
OK, just read a technical analysis of XM. They use a combination of extremely high power and a much lower symbol rate than typical FTA signals. The lower symbol rate makes noise much easier to filter out.

I've used one temporarily and it will hot-spot. However, the pricture is very bright, and you can always arrange it so the hot-spot will not be visible to the viewers, by adjusting the vertical position of the projector and the height of the screen.
Just bought a Samsung SIR-TS160 (and a Hughes HTL-HD) for OTA HD and cable reception. I have previously experimented with a Fusion HDTV USB 2.0 receiver, but wanted something simple to give to less technical friends/family.
The Hughes unit can be set up for Cable/Antenna without a satellite...
Even if you've tried both a straight-through and a null-modem cable, it's worth trying a couple more. I recently had a similar problem, and it turned out one of my cables was bad!
