On the Hopper 3 there is no option to resume if a recording is still in progress. If the recording is completed you can resume but if the recording is still in progress no resume option is available. So if you start watching a program that is still recording and go watch something else and try to continue watching that program while it is still recording this is currently not possible. There have been several software updates since the Hopper 3 first came out but this has not been fixed yet as of the latest software of U313. The resume option on recordings still in progress is available on the HWS. The resume option on recordings still in progress is also available on every other DVR except the Hopper 3 including Direct TV, Comcast, Tivo and Time Warner.

Could Scott or someone from Dish please report this issue to Dish. This is an important functionality that was previously present but was removed from the Hopper 3. As recently Scott opened a thread regarding OTA recording problems and I think this issue should also be addressed by Dish.

My HWS works the same way. There is no resume button on recordings in progress. I usually pause the recording and look at the time recorded and then fast forward to that point when want to finish watching the program.

Does your HWS have the new CUI?

DISH DVRs have never had a resume option during a currently recording event.
All my HWSs are on S530 and the Resume works fine during the recording while in progress. It is when the recording has completed and you go back to it, the Resume is gone, you have to start over. I think DISH DVRs are the only ones that are this way. I know Verizon, Tivo, Charter's DVR are not this way. It was posted long time ago that it was thought the reason for the Resume not working was because of the TIVO law suit. It has been my number one gripe since I joined DISH in 2007. It has been a pain in the -ss for me and the Mrs and she still gives me hell about it. :ballchain

This is exactly correct. And exactly how it worked for me on both the HWS and the original Hopper ever since I first got Dish in 2014. The resume function while the recording is still in progress was only lost once I upgraded to the Hopper 3 on 1-31-16. And if this is fixed and the manual timer issue is fixed so that manual timers can be set to end after 11:59 pm then to me the Hopper 3 will be a vast improvement over the HWS and have no drawbacks or lost functionality from the HWS.

Probably the HWSs that have the new CUI have also lost the capability like the H3 to resume while the recording is still in progress. HWSs with S530 still have the capability. My HWSs with S530 still loose the resume feature once the recording is complete. That is what would be nice if DISH would fix that for both H3 and HWSs that have the new CUI and the old user interface.

I honestly can't see what the big deal is. I do what the poster quoted does:
I usually pause the recording and look at the time recorded and then fast forward to that point when want to finish watching the program.
Or, I wait until the recording is finished. I know that everybody uses these things differently, just can't see this one point being such a big issue.

It can be a big deal for sports fans, especially when there is more then one game recording. I don't think it is reasonable to expect people to pause until one hour after the game is finished when the recording is finished (which is the normal end time padding for sporting events). Or if the recording freezes for any reason and you have to either exit watching the recording or turn off the DVR to start again (which happened to me during the NBA finals game 1 earlier tonight). Plus it is especially important during the NCAA March madness basketball tournament when four different games are being broadcast on four different channels at the same time.

Plus this was functionality that was present in the HWS which was removed from the Hopper 3. And removing functionality that previously existed makes no sense. And also the Hopper way of showing time remaining instead of time played aggravates the problem for sports fans. As if time played was shown instead of time remaining that could be used as a work around to fast forward to the exact same time played to switch between different games or if you had to restart watching a recording in progress for any reason. Also every other DVR in the country by every other provider, including Dish before the Hopper 3 and new Carbon UI, has the ability to resume watching a recording that is still in progress.

So maybe for non sports fans it might not be a big deal. But the Hopper 3 with no resume function for recordings in progress combined with time remaining instead of time played can be very frustrating for a sports fan, especially watching more then one game, wanting to switch between a game that is recording and other programming, or if playback freezes and you must exit or reenter the recording for any reason.

Agree, it is a big pain for sporting events when multiple events are on or you just want to do something else and then skip across half time.
Yep, happens to us all the time for race car events. We try to remember what lap the race was on before we switch to another channel or go do something else. I hope this gets fixed sometime.

My HWSs also do not have the new CUI, still on S530. Wonder why I have the resume and you don't while watching a program that is still recording. I only do not see the resume if the program has completed recording and I go back to it to resume it. Wonder if we have a different version S530 update. Very strange!

Wrong. I can do that with the 722 as long as the recording is taking place on the other TV. I can go into the DVR, watch a recording in progress, stop and start it where I left off.

If you pause a channel while it's recording and use PIP swap to go to another channel, then use PIP swap to go back. the recording starts playing at the point you paused. Just verified on my Hopper3 this morning. Should work that way at least to the length of the buffer. I'm not going to waste my time to see if it works longer since it isn't a feature that I use.

Did anyone ever get a resolution to this issue? I left Dish, came back and everything was fine on my Hopper 3. About a month ago I lost the ability to resume on a recording in progress. Called Dish. They said they cannot help. Come on Dish
