Why does DISH continue to label Ch. 232 as "Rural TV" ?

As been pointed out, it makes no sense to have the old channel name still displayed after all these years. It also makes no sense that the owners of RuralTV, er, Familynet would not know Dish hasn't changed it yet, since they even have the old channel name and logo on their public website for anyone to see: http://www.dish.com/lifestyle/

Given these two incongruities, the only thing that makes sense to me is it must be contract-related. I'm sure once the contract expires/renews, you'll see the name change. Neither party seems to care at this point.

The guy has a point and deriding him serves no purpose.
Posting here serves no purpose (maybe). Has ANYONE contacted the network to let them know about this ... or just bitched about it on a message board ?

Well I think that's kind of the point of his post.
How do we get this done.

You really want to engage an intelligent conversation with a CSR about this?

I wouldn't waste the battery power in my phone with a Dish CSR.

As far as the network, well you could Try , but same thing, are you actually going to get someone that isn't a secretary?

The OP might be a little Bitchy, but It seems some people are extremely sensitive when it comes to any displayed issue with a certain provider.

Seems anymore you can't complain about anything.
Unless it's accepted by what seems anymore as an" Unappointed" board of directors.

But it's totally okay, to Complain about complaints over and over and over.
So you can be extremely persistent that you have no issues, Yet you can't be persistent when you demand resolve.

Not saying you Hall , Just saying in general.

I posted the issue here because Satellite Guys has been successful in getting things fixed at DISH..... Whether it's their engineers who check into the site or DIRT members, they've been quite good about getting problems resolved....

Just one example: back in 2011 we were able to get DISH to launch the International News Pack (from 118.7) as a result of all the complaints here about losing access to Euronews and France 24 English due to a stupid packaging move by DISH....

If this issue with Family Net had not been festering for over 3 years now I would have not bothered with it....

Really contact one of the DIRT team members and ask the question about RURAL TV. Go to the "Dish Network Support Forum" and look on the right side for anyone in RED. There's no one there now, but there will be tomorrow. Send them a private message (start a conversation). They really listen to you and will escalate the question when they can.

You can also contact RFD TV and ask about this here

This is a forum where members can discuss whatever subject they wish to discuss. Others are free to join in the conversation in a constructive and friendly way or ignore the thread. Those are the two acceptable options.

The only way I got a station call letter change was via DIRT and it took about 3 months

I kinda sorta remember dish carrying "familynet" as a PI (Public Interest) channel somewhere around 2002..they were forced to drop them over some kind of lawsuit..

Good suggestions, thanks !... I will do both and report back what Rural Media and DISH have to say about this....

Family Net is a fun network to watch (lots of popular classic shows with limited commercial interruptions).... It's worth it to get this fixed for them.....

I checked the network's history and in 2002 FamilyNet was owned by Jerry Falwell..... Maybe DISH got into a lawsuit with Falwell back then but I found no record of it...

Falwell sold the network to another evangelist, Robert Schuller in 2009..... He, in turn, then sold it to RFD-TV in October, 2012.....

RFD-TV then shut down their sister channel--Rural TV-- on 1-1-13 and replaced it with FamilyNet everywhere Rural TV was airing.... DISH didn't seem to get that memo, though--- as Channel 232 is still named Rural TV....

Looking at the Echostar Knowledge Base archive, I see that FamilyNet was added to Dish Network on December 20, 2002 on channel 9414. Sky Angel had had a FN Affiliate for some time on channel 9716.

Aha! The deal is that Sky Angel had a non-compete clause with Dish. They wouldn't carry general entertainment channels and Dish wouldn't carry religious channels except for a select few. Here is my entry in 2003
7/9/03

  • As of this moment Daystar and Familynet are still on Dish Network, however FEDERAL COURT RULING HAS ORDERED DISH TO REMOVE CHANNELS 9408 AND 9414 FROM THEIR LINE UP SINCE SKY ANGEL HAS EXCLUSIVITY. Both Daystar and FamilyNet are appealing. Perhaps Dish is too, but Dish MAY NOT have a leg to stand on due to agreements with Dominion. Look for these channel to disappear unless an emergency stay is granted pending appeal. (P#)

  • Channels 9413 and 9414 (Educating Everyone and FamilyNrt) disappeared from the EPG today.
I am not sure when FamilyNet was actually removed from subscribers. I remember the channel was gone but a "place holder" was up for quite some time while the issue worked its way through the courts.

Aha! (again). Looks like Scott keeps good records too. Sept 20, 2004:

So guessing, DISH can have the Familynet programming because a channel under contract is carrying it and either they can't or don't want to call it Familynet.

More importantly, I hope Mario can live with it.

Ha ha, funny..... I'm waiting to hear back from RFD-TV, sent them an e-mail today....

The Facebook response is puzzling because I've never seen livestock auctions on FamilyNet, but I've seen them on RFD-TV..... And why would they want a 24-hour channel improperly named after a particular program they (supposedly) carry is a head scratcher....
