I will give that a try when I have a free weekend. If all goes well, all the channels received in the Mpls/St. Paul market would be worth it. Thanks for the tip. Having the wrong guide info is no big deal. I have to Deal with is on 9.4 Buzzr (Bemidji PBS subchannel) and 11.3 Crime & Justice (WPIX guide). Being in the metro area should get all those channels. I did not know you could do that procedure. If all works, I will be a very happy customer.

By running all those zips, I get 5.3 with the correct METV guide (Weslaco). 11.3 with the correct Justice Net guide (Atlanta) and 23.3 with the correct GRIT guide (Little Rock). I get both 9.4 KMSP (BUZZR) and 9.4 KAWE (PBS) in my DVR by running all those zip codes and just keep the BUZZR guide in my DVR using the favorite list. If it works you will also get, 4.2 Decades with the guide on 25.2 (Sacramento). 23.4 GET with the guide on 41.2 (Grand Rapids MI). 43.1 BOUNCE with the guide on 2.3 (Baltimore). 43.2 ESCAPE with the guide on 33.2 (Hartford). 43.3 LAFF with the guide on 33.3 (Hartford). 43.4 COZI with the guide on 4.2 (Wash DC). This is how it works for me. Getting almost all of the sub-channels into my DVR, with 7 guides on wrong channels. But I can still reference the guide and see what's on a certain channel. I just set manual recordings if I want to record on those channels. So you get all these additional channels into your DVR in MPLS/STP, not in the D* database with a little effort and time. There are more, just to numerous to list. I listed the main channels.

living 80 miles from the main transmitters of our locals, we cannot pull any of them in, have to use the direct locals, which stinks in hard rains or bad weather.....

This will sound like I'm from another planet, but it works. It will take about 45 minutes to an hour of time to accomplish. First, you do a double reboot of your DVR to clear the AM21. Then you have to run the initial setup on the AM21, 6 different TIMES. Each time takes 5-7 minutes to run through. OK here goes, the first time run Wash DC (20001) as your primary zip and Grand Rapids MI (49503) as secondary. Then the 2nd time run Baltimore MD (21201) as primary and Hartford CT (06101) as secondary. 3rd time Minneapolis (55401) and Little Rock AR (72201). 4th time Weslaco TX (78520) and Atlanta GA (30301). 5th time Sacramento CA (94203) and Springfield MA (01103). 6th time run Wash Dc (20001) and Grand Rapids MI (49503). Make sure you have you DVR channel list on ALL CHANNELS, this will then show all the channels you have attained by running the zip codes. Then you will have to create a favorites list, keeping the channels you want and omitting the channels you don't. You will have a lot of duplicate channels and unwanted channels, but that what the favorites list of channels if for. This works for me in the MPLS/STP market to give me almost all of the subchannels and guides, albeit some are on the wrong channel. Good luck, if you are adventurious enough to try this.
Worked great! I now get 5.3 for Svengoolie Saturday nights.

How many extra channels did you add to your AM21 in the Twin Cities, by running secondary zips?
I didn't count them. But I know that there are several more. Some are too weak for me to receive with any quality. I have a cheap indoor antenna that does what I want. Especially with your help I can now get 5-3.

One thing to remember. When you have a software update or a power outage the AM21 will only re-initialize the 2 zip codes stored in the DVR/AM21. Basically the last 2 zip codes run in the last setup run. So remember the process and you will have to rerun these zip codes after a reboot, because you will lose a bunch of your AM21 channels when this happens. Weslaco TX (78520) is the zip used to get 5.3 METV in the Twin Cities with the correct guide.

Software update on the HR44? I have the units on a UPS. Power outage should be mitigated.
I have my AM21 on an HR24 and every time the DVR reboots for that software update, the AM21 only retains the channels from the last 2 zip codes run (stored in the machine). That's why in the layout of zip codes in the previous post the last 2 zip codes run were the same as the first 2 run so when this happens you have the same starting point and just run the zip codes again. On power outages, or any other reboot (for any reason) my DVR/AM21 will sometimes retain all the channels of the AM21 and sometimes not. I've never figured out what the contributing factor is in this behavior, I just rerun zip codes if needed.

Hello,
I live in a very small area, in Wyoming. We only have access to a few local channels with an antenna, or cable, or even DISH, but DirectTV does not carry any. I just recently switched to Direct TV after a salesman incorrectly informed me that if I were to buy a very inexpensive ($34) indoor HD Antenna, I would be able to hook it directly into my satellite and access all the local channels through my receiver, and be able to use the DVR. Instead, so far, I have had to return the $34 antenna and purchase a much more pricey outdoor antenna, as well as an AM21.

I am now able to tune in to most of the OTA channels, but the guide is incorrect for every one of them. I am also still missing 2 of the local channels I would like to receive. I have reset the AM21 several times and repeated the scan. I have reset the DTV receiver several times.

I have tried to input several different zip codes, as described earlier in this thread. I downloaded the TPN Map and am using that to look up possible channel matches. (In fact, it lists the local channels from my area on the correct station, even though my guide does not). I have tried using the new zip codes as both the primary and secondary markets.

Nothing seems to work. Which leads me to a few questions...

1. When I reset the DTV receiver and go back into Antenna setup, the zip code I last typed is still there. Does that mean I did not properly reset the AM21, or reset the DTV receiver incorrectly? I am resetting them by unplugging for several minutes. Also, several times I have clicked on Reset Settings on the Antenna Setup Screen, but nothing ever seems to change. The last time, I actually checked the guide before going back in to ensure that the channels were no longer available. But my primary ZIP code was still there.

2. When I type in the various zip codes, am I supposed to be doing it in the primary or secondary market, or both? (I have tried each, but never both) If the secondary, am I always supposed to retype my primary zip code as the Primary market? Or can I try to use two different zip codes for each scan?

3. Am I supposed to uncheck the stations for which the guide is incorrect (under Edit Off Air Channels) before I do the scan with the new ZIP/ZIPS?

Thank you for your assistance!

1. No, mine does that too.
2. Do them in the order coconut said and things will work the best. It doesn't matter first/secondary except for the FIRST time you run the zips (you need your home locals to form the base you're adding to.) Then you can do first/second in the order coconut said, using that as the guide for the order. It is also recommended that, when you're done, run your home zip (i put it in for primary and secondary) to form the "power out base" for it to default to. It makes it easier to start over next time.
3. It doesn't matter. You don't need to uncheck them, though, during the process. Just do it when you're all done. You might night even be able to uncheck the unwanted ones in the AM21 menu, so you'll have to create a favorites list to weed out the wanted duplicated locals. For example, I use KRGVDT3 to add MeTV to my guide correctly. In the AM21 menu, all I see is 5-1 WPTZDT, 5-2 WPTZDT2, and 5-3 KRGVDT3. But in the "All channels" list, both WPTZ/KRGV 1 and 2 appear. That's why you will probably need a favorites list.

If all you're trying to get is the Wyoming channels and you have all of the info about the database and what is/isn't there and you're still getting incorrect guide data try this:

The complete reset. Run an initial setup with the 2 zips you want the most. Then, do the "reset settings" on the AM21. Reset the receiver. When the receiver comes back on, disconnect the AM21. Reset the receiver again. Look in the menu, you should see "Satellite" under settings. Now re-attach the AM21. It should change to "Sat & Antenna" when you go back to the menu. Your last home zip will probably still appear, hopefully that is the zip of the WY channels you want. Make sure your antenna is receiving the channels at their best. Run that initial set-up, say a prayer, say another, and when it's finally done, hopefully you'll see the WY channels with the correct guide.

You should receive all of the channels (that are in D* database for Casper) that your antenna receives, WITH the correct guide. If you are not, you must have bought a used AM21 and the former zips are causing you to get the wrong guides. It sounds like you have properly cleared the AM21, but the AM21 can be funky sometimes and won't clear. By looking at Casper, their are only 2 channels that are not in the database. 13.2 and 20.2. These 2 channels are attainable (with the correct guide) using secondary zips. Tell me what channels you are looking for, and where the incorrect guides are coming from (what city) and I will try and help you.

Here is the best procedure you can try. Start by resetting the AM21 on the antenna setup on the DVR. Then do a double reboot by unplugging the DVR/AM21. A double reboot is attained by, unplugging the DVR and letting it reboot. And as soon as it's back from the first reboot unplug it and let it reboot again. This will wipe your guide and some other things on the DVR also, but it will rebuild over 48 hrs. Then you have to be patient and let the DVR fully rebuild itself (12-48 hrs). This makes the DVR ready for the AM21. If you start running zip codes before the DVR is fully rebuilt, it stops the DVR from rebuilding completely. Then I would run your home zip as the primary and Macon GA (31201) as a secondary zip. The 2nd time run your home zip as primary and Denver CO (80202) as secondary. This should give you all the channels in the Casper area that your antenna receives. Macon gives you 13.2 with the correct guide and Denver gives you 20.2 with the correct guide.

Thank you so much! Yes, I did purchase a used AM21, because, as far as I could tell they are difficult to find these days.

I have tried repeatedly to double reset my receiver, and I cannot get it to wipe the guide. I have tried unplugging it the second time while it is booting back up at each of the different phases in the process, as well as waiting until it is completely done rebooting the first time. In addition, even though I was able to get it to erase the antenna data yesterday when I started over, today, even with the antenna unplugged from the wall, and the USB disconnected from the DVR, the settings still displayed Sat & Antenna, even after rebooting the DVR several times. I am at a loss, but on the plus side, I have been able to get things to work, sort of.

In response to your request:
"Tell me what channels you are looking for, and where the incorrect guides are coming from (what city) and I will try and help you."

After following the instructions above, I was able to get the correct guide data for several channels, but I am still having trouble with the following:

*Channel 2-2 shows the same content as Channel 2-1, which is KTWO (ABC), but the guide is for KWGN (CW) which actually is on Channel 13-2, but everything is on one hour sooner than the guide shows. The guide for channel 13-2 is for WMAZ2, which is supposed to be CW, but it doesn't match any program data on the Casper CW as far as I can tell.

*Channel 13-1 is NBC (KCWY), but the guide is for WMAZ (CBS) out of Macon, GA.

*Channel 20-2 is a MyNetwork Channel, KTVD, but the guide for it is on 20-1, which is FOX. I have two Channel 20-1, and the first is correct, KFNB (FOX) with the correct guide.

Once again I really appreciate your assistance. I'm sure you can tell how technologically challenged I am!
