I think before HBO there was a channel called HHT. (Hollywood Home Theater). Our cable company either dropped it or it became HBO. It was like wow back then. You could see Boobies on your TV !

Agreed. It is how the words are used that matters, not the words themselves. If I call someone a "curseword idiot," that is offensive. If I call my car a "curseword pile of junk," is that offensive? Not to me, but clearly it is to others, and not just those who built it.
Times Mirror tried their hand at a premium service, Spotlight, I remember it from the early 80’s on C-Band, went away sometime in 1984. Then there was SelecTV, and HTN Home Theatre Network too.
That intro still plays in my head from time to time. A close second is the old HBO Special Events intro and the mid to late 80s Cinemax "rad" intro.
There were several of them. I can't remember a name, but there were two or three of them in the Boston market, all on UHF stations.

This sucks. I just switched back to Dish from DirecTV and now I lose one of my must-have channels. I just got on a chat with Dish to complain about it. I know the poor rep on the chat can't do anything about it, but at least she can pass it along to the higher-ups. I get that they are taking a hard line in negotiations, but a pay-TV service that doesn't have HBO has a pretty major liability. They are playing chicken, especially with all the other options that are out there for getting the service if you want it.
I'm guessing streaming (HBO Now, Amazon) is not an option for you?
This may be the least liability of the major programming pulled over the years. Why? Because many maybe most can get it for the same price online, in many different ways and yes it may be more inconvenient for some but for those that want it no need to drop DISH. I'm not saying DISH should just forget them the best outcome is to come to an agreement.
But overall this isn't the same as losing programming that can only be streamed if you have a Cable/Sat subscription, and in reality HBO is fine for a streaming/on demand environment for most of it's programming. In fact it's the only programming I do stream even with my DISH subscription with any regularity to watch past original programming or movies I want to watch that aren't in the cycle this month. I wouldn't blink an eye if I had to stream it all the time, again not as convenient and I like flipping there to see if a movie is playing that I want to watch but I can adjust.
I remember Spotlight in the early 80s. Cox Cable carried it. As I remember they ran a lot of really off the wall movies at the time too.

It is, but I'm an inveterate channel-surfer, so I really like having those channels in the guide where I can just see what's on and flip to it. I suppose when my true must-see shows come back, I'll sign up for HBO Now, but I hate rewarding AT&T for pulling this crap, too.
I agree. Seeing what is showing in the guide is important and nothing beats simply having the shows record to your DVR to watch at anytime.
According to https://www.google.com/amp/s/seekingalpha.com/amp/news/3407060-dish-t-fire-new-salvos-hbo-blackout AT&T says again that Dish pulled the channels, AT&T was willing to keep them up under the then existing contract. Since there was no warning or rumors that they would be pulled maybe that’s correct.
