924 can record 3 shows at the same time! I did not know that.

Last night I set my 942 to record: David Letterman at 11:35, local channel coming from Dish Jay Leno at 11:35, local OTA channel World Series of Poker at 11:30, ESPN2 It did not complain. It actually recorded all three.

    Any PVR942's that work?

Mine is working very well. It has few nuisances, but nothing significant. I had it for 5 months now.

Does MPEG4 mean longer rec. time with same disk size?

You have killed my excitement :) I started dreaming already. MPEG4 means More HD & More DVR rec. time. By the time MPEG4 DVRs are out, the disk size will be 500G. This means 50 hours of MPEG2 or 100 hours of MPEG4 HD. WOW

Does MPEG4 mean longer rec. time with same disk size?

What format is actually saved on disk? If it is MPEG4, it should consume less space than MPEG2.

Does MPEG4 mean longer rec. time with same disk size?

MPEG4 offers a higher compression rate, will this translate into more recording time for the same disk size?

No difference in 942 monthly fees lease vs. purchase?!?

Not true, first purchased receiver does not have an extra receiver fee. I have two purchased receivers and I do not get charged for the first one. I just get charged extra for the second receiver.

No difference in 942 monthly fees lease vs. purchase?!?

As I remember from previous threads: - Lease fees and Extra Receiver fees are "equivalent." - One thing that is not clear, those fees for the FIRST receiver or if you have only one receiver. There is no Extra Receiver fee if it is purchased. What about if it is leased? Someone mentioned...

Lease fee vs. additional receiver fee. What if you have one leased receiver?

You are saying: One owned 811 + one leased 942 = $10 fee (942 Lease + 942 DVR fees) and One leased 942 = $10 fee too (942 Lease + 942 DVR fees) Right? Thank you Mark

Lease fee vs. additional receiver fee. What if you have one leased receiver?

As I understood the fee structure, the Lease fee replaces the additional receiver fee if you lease instead of buying. What if I have one receiver. There is no additional receiver fee if I buy. But will there still be any Lease fees? -Mark

Moving 148 dish to 61.5 - can't find the sat!

After pointing the dish using my 811, I got the 721 working by doing this: - Disconnected the wing dish - Did a check switching 721 - Reconnect the dish - Did another check switch Now, everything is working. -Mark

Moving 148 dish to 61.5 - can't find the sat!

I had the same problem using my 721. When I switch to 811, finding the signal was a breeze. The 921 is based on the 721 software. -Mark

My own conclusion: MPEG4 upgrade will be free.

Here is what I've heard so far: - On the chat when they announced MPEG4, they said: “little or no cost to upgrade.” - In the Team Summit: The next HD MPEG4 receiver is the 411. It will replace both 811 and the 311. No more MPEG2. - In the last retailer chat, Charlie told retailers that they...

    How do I move 148 to 61.5

There is a zipcode tool from dish that lets you know what Azimuth, Elevation, and Skew Angles for the different Satellites. Just search the dish website. I just re-pointed my dish. The 811 worked fine. My 721 got into a weird state. I wasted too much time till I did the following: -...

    Voom Channels Comming to Dish?

I won't be surprised if Dish carrys Voom's programming. That's because I've seen Charlie's negotiation tactics: - State publicly that the service is worthless. - Look like you do not know the details because you absolutely have no interest. - Prove that you are willing to walk away, even if...

P285 Roll-out Halted. P287 To Be Released Today

For me, the 811 is not as stable as it needs to be, but it is usable. It is stable enough so I don't have to care about future updates. Just if they can fix: - The disappearing guide syndrome. - Occasional crash, about once a week. It seems somehow related to OTA surfing. -Mark

Has any news leaked about the future MPEG4 recievers?

Maybe the latest 942 delay was because they are quickly soldering in that new faster chip before it get rushed out of the door. :D :smug But seriously, knowing Dish, they might try to pull some trick like this one: Modify the hardware without software support, for now. Try to support it...

Has any news leaked about the future MPEG4 recievers?

That 921 fiasco left them way behind. It's bad that Dish is always trying to catch up instead of designing the next super HD gadget that everyone is waiting for. And, why do they have to do it themselves to begin with? They should just outsource the damn thing to somebody who already knows...

Has any news leaked about the future MPEG4 recievers?

Has any news leaked out about the future MPEG4 recievers? They must be working on it. Is it going to be 811 & 942 with MPEG4 chipset? Or, we will have a dual OTA tuner DVR. Just trying to get something to dream of for the coming year :) -Mark
