Broadband Setup on th VIP 622

VOOM-original capability ever to arrive? Remember Way back in the dark ages, when we had VOOM as a provider, and right before they went belly-up, they promised these really cool multi-room streaming DVR's, which I think DirecTV bought the rights/technology to? Well...here we have Active...

Help - Quick Recap of E* market and Recommendations?

Short version: I had E* for 4 years, including 6000 + 921. Sold out and went to Voom. Voom died, went to cable, waiting for: 1) MPeg4 receiver deals for "new subscribers" 2) Whole-house DVR (or equivalent) 3) VOOM content to be bought (already had cable by time of E*/V* announcement -grrr)...

    Mpeg4 Dvr?

My bet - December 11, 2005 I know I'll be wrong based on historical evidence, but... Just like the 921, I believe they will release *SOMETHING*, whether it is ready or not in December of this year, for the Christmas season. I believe they will start advertising in September that it will be...

DISH to carry all 21 in 2006

...8000 DVR that I have right now on TWC. I would push for an 8300, but it sounds like it has all the same technical issues. With a new crop of Mpeg4 hardware coming out next year including whole-house DVR, and better PQ, even *if* TWC has Voom21, there may still be very good reasons to convert.

DISH to carry all 21 in 2006

...MPEG4 is not yet in production/available, nor are the whole-house solutions (any of them)...so this gives time for both to deliver/mature before switching back to E*. Still, sad about losing the EquatorHD, HDNews, and RaveHD that could be had today, if only the timing were better communicated.

POLL: After VOOM, who will be your provider?

...show you how behind the times they are...in my area, they just got HBOHD. No SHOHD, CINHD, UHD, etc.,etc. But, considering the poor state of E* and D* HD options, seemed better to me to benefit from the ~$23/mo savings for 12 months (or less) and see what shakes out. And to your point...

    current dishnetwork and directv offers

Looking for advice I had E* for about 4 years. Left in January for Voom, because not enough HD, and they put the screws to original 921 purchasers, and by my understanding, will put the screws to new 942 purchasers by end of year. Voom is great, and had the son not sold out the father, I...

Thank You letters to VOOM and Charles Dolan

Mr. Dolan: Thank you for providing an additional DBS choice. For most of us, the real problem is lack of broadcaster choices. In my area, I can suffer with 6 local TV stations OTA, or 1 cable company (w/no OTA STB support). Previously, I could choose from 2 Satellite providers (dish...

Flash!!!! There will be no official statement on Monday

I like your thinking I was wading through the complaining, thinking I would make this point at the bottom. Bottom line is that if there was no possibility, they would simply have said it was over. The fact that they are staying their comments implies that there is still a possibility...

Great News - Voom Is Here To Stay!!

Insightful and I agree More importantly, my ***WIFE*** likes Voom. She likes it better than Dish, and for the most part, she is technology agnostic. Sure, I love Voom, and I hoped my wife would put up with the move from Dish. I was so sad when about 1 week after I received installation...

Why Do I See So Much Hate For Dish?

Overstated Certainly there are plenty of people who may feel as strongly as to say "hate", but personally, I don't. I am *annoyed* with Dish ;) ... Like a burr under the saddle...I would say that I dislike companys that forget who the customer is, but the reality that I'm probably not their...

    4 Year E*, soon V*

Basically, my feelings about E* service and product(s) matches the same comments as the "8 years E*, moving to D*" thread from a day or two ago, except that I really want HD, and want to give V* a try. However, if it fails to deliver the goods, or the business finally goes insolvent, or is...

    OTA EPG Guide question

What about the EPG from the OTA station itself? I hate to be dense, but I thought that the 811 received the capability a while ago to decode the Program Guide data transmitted as part of the OTA transmission? However, even with 284, I could not see that data, as of last night. I assume I...

Highly inappropriate material on a kids channel

I'm glad there's at least 1 other responsible parent out there I agree with your analysis, above. I have a similar problem with our local television stations, which on Saturday morning run the latest killing/murdering/depravity they can find right before they switch to Nick Jr. at 8:00am...

echostar is in trouble, i want to give them one last chance

I just wanted to point out that Microsoft has successfully used this same principle for *YEARS* to kill their competition. Take Novell for instance...they had (and some could argue still have) a superior LAN networking solution to Microsoft's offering. But, MS marketed the h*** out of their...

Should Dish Quit Talking to Customers?

...of it holding value sends a powerfully negative message. I think to sum up the points of this discussion thread (and add my own perspective): *) Dish needs to do what they say they will do, even when painful. Honor is its own reward, but is also often rewarded by those who recognize it...

    Crystal Ball, Dec 2004

...into peoples' Crystal Balls (CB). With enough response, I'll happily merge into an spreadsheet... Here's what I see: Echostar (E*, AKA: Dish Network) (I currently have had for 4 years): - BUSINESS MODEL: Cheapest content provider at the low end, with best PQ at the high end -...

    I predict...

Keep in mind that I know nothing As a technical question, oh Sagely-types... I thought that the Dish boxes worked on MPEG2, and that the VOOM boxes worked on MPEG4 and/or WMP9 formats? If so, is this being done in software (hard to imagine), or on a hardware accelerator? If the latter...

No Dishwire, now no OTA Guide Data?

...Ebay in ~ 1 hour...it's already there, just waiting for the clock to reach the right time to start...24 hours from now, I'll be done with my 921. V* or D* will be getting my business within 6 months. As soon as I know the lay of the HD-DVR land (3-6 months, I expect), I will sell my 811 and...

Will the Dish 921 have asynchronous DishWire IEEE-1394?

...channel was this originally recorded from what time was it recorded. what is/was the name of the show synopsis Assuming this is Linux, it is *not* a technical problem to restore a video file from tape back to disk, and then display it through the DVR guide. My guess is that E* is...

    L149HECD-N has arrived

I don't know what changed between last night and today. Last night, I was watching a show, and powered off the tv with the TV power button, specifically to test the segregation between the main power and tv power buttons, and the TV turned off, yet the vocals from the show continued. I have...

    L149HECD-N has arrived

...Also, (and I may be smokin' a pipe on this one), but I immediately started off by deleting all my local digitals and re-adding them, and it *seemed* to do a better job of determining them and mapping (like 58->16, 50->2) than it "normally" would do. Thus, I was perceiving this as perhaps a...
