    I cut the cord

Lots of options. I think if I'm going to drop a couple hundred, it'll be a channel master, Tabelo or Tivo, probably not the HD Home run as much as I like it. I'm most likely to pick up that cheap $40 Mediasonic box and move to something fancier and more expensive if we stick OTA for longer than...

    I cut the cord

TBS is not OTA in my area. That was my clue that my cable provider may not be blocking everything and why I dug the antenna out. I'll have to compare channel listings from the cable feed versus the antenna tomorrow night, looks like I won't make it home in time to do it tonight. I'm looking...

    I cut the cord

I get nothing from cable. The wire is acting as an antenna near as I can tell. The subchannels that I see on my local stations are nowhere on the cable service. I was happy to find Buzzr, as I was a GSN addict. I plan to compare tonight or tomorrow what channels I get from the cable line...

    I cut the cord

I cut the cord. My main living room TV has no digital tuner. Bedroom TV does. If I hook up the cable line in the bedroom I get 40+ channels, TBS is one, but otherwise it looks like it's all broadcast TV in the expected spots. I plan to test with an antenna as well to see which gets me more. I...

    Discovery Fit & Health HD

Any news on seeing a feed of this in Tampa? I know about the non-HD feed, but it's about the only standard def channel I watch regularly anymore.

    8300HDC manual recording?

You're kidding. I missed that. I'll have to try it when I get home.

    8300HDC manual recording?

My kingdom for a way to root the box, just so I can add this feature. Yet another reason to get a standard HD box, and build a PVR with an IR blaster. Thanks for the help.

    8300HDC manual recording?

Can I get up a manual recording for a show not in the guide? I want to DVR the rain-delayed nascar race. Surely there's a better way than picking 3 separate spots and saying "end recording 2 hours later" Customer service had no idea. Anyone here found a way?

Need a cheap plan: Tampa Bay

That's how I pitched it to the wife: Up about $60, but down $10 since I dropped from 15meg to 10 meg RR and we're saving $8.99 a month by dropping netflix. Since BH had no HD boxes, I got a DVR free for a month. She's hooked on that and already said we can keep it. yay!

    Resolution nightmare

I'm on a 4:3 screen, but it's the same on either shape. I had (mistakenly) assumed that the box would add the letterboxing as necessary on channels that need it (since I get that effect on 480 modes) -- apparently I'm expecting too much per the brighthouse tech.

    Resolution nightmare

I may have found the problem: The 8300HDC manual specifically references 480 as filling a 4:3 screen and 720/1080 as filling a 16:9. (sigh) time to call CS again and argue the point.

    Resolution nightmare

I'm using HDMI (was aware of the limitations of component) and am using 1080i on the box, it's like the box is auto-zooming in on a widescreen picture instead of letterboxing it. I'm running an 8300HDC, 4:3, Normal with all resolutions on. My issue is programs broadcast in 16:9 get smooshed or...

    Resolution nightmare

I have an old TV (Sanyo HT32744) -- When I run 480 from my box to it, I'm good -- 16:9 programs have the black bars at top and bottom, and 4:3 programs fill the screen. If I enable 720p or 1080i, my tv fills the screen with every picture, distorting things. Is there a fix I can use to run the...

Need a cheap plan: Tampa Bay

Did it. Combo rate with dropping netflix and dropping 15 meg internet speed got me to raise $40/month with the digital service. Wil be done in time for the start of Nascar season. Thanks for the advice, back to lurking.

Need a cheap plan: Tampa Bay

1 - green vhf 9 - red uhf 2 - blue uhf All within 9 degrees of each other (202 to 211), 12.4 mi to 14 mi away. Yeah, It's possible, but I might have some issues getting to the necessary wiring, cathedral ceilings. I'd also have to position the antenna on the opposite side of the house from...

Need a cheap plan: Tampa Bay

I refuse to pay $60 a month for the two or three channels I watch. I'll probably drop to internet-only for a month, and they'll decide to offer me really chap basic cable again. The only station I'll actually miss is BayNews9, everything else I can get via internet.

Need a cheap plan: Tampa Bay

I've got RR 10 Meg for $44.95 a month with free limited basic cable on a DTV conversion promo that expires mid February. I want to keep locals (NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC and Bay News 9) -- Ideally I'd like to add ESPN/Discovery but it's not part of the limited basic. Is there a new promo I can get on...

Newbie with questions on how to get started

I'm in Plant City, FL about 1/2 way between Tampa and Orlando. I have a HOA, but if I remember correctly, they can't stop me for certain types of dishes. (And my back yard is fenced, so if we're not visible from the street, BONUS) :D I'd love to see BBC, NBC and FOX. NBC and FOX I may be able...

Newbie with questions on how to get started

After reading more, I still want FTA, even though I won't find popular channels there. I could always pick up a nps subscription and still beat the pants off cable. Will my little dish work? I'm fairly clear in the south from the roof, and depending on the angle, from the yard as well.
