    I miss the old days!

Yes. With the exception that at least there are some high definition feeds today, and everything is digital so no more "sparklies". And many receivers have a PVR function, which is nice. On the other hand, back then everything seemed to just work as long as you aimed the dish correctly, while...

    Diamond 9000HD PVR Review

Found out today it was a bad 3300uf/10v capacitor in the power supply that went completely open.

New mystery receiver discussed on Satellite Nation tonight

While this was all hashed and re-hashed in that other thread I mentioned above, I would agree with you that I probably would like it were it not for three things: The fact that you can buy four or five VBOX units for what one of those would cost you. Since I'm not exactly rolling in cash...

New mystery receiver discussed on Satellite Nation tonight

I used to have a Diamond 9000HD which worked okay (except it had this nasty tendency to reboot when you were trying to skip through commercials, and when it did that it trashed the recording you were trying to watch), but one day several months ago it bit the dust - nothing would light up on it...

New mystery receiver discussed on Satellite Nation tonight

I would love to have the opportunity, because while the details released so far have been rather sketchy, this sounds very close to the type of receiver I've been hoping to see for many months now. And the fact that it runs XBMC is a HUGE plus!

New mystery receiver discussed on Satellite Nation tonight

Oh crap, I should have looked at the FridgeFTA site before I posted the above, it might have saved me a lot of typing! http://www.fridgefta.info/forums/showthread.php?tid=33586

New mystery receiver discussed on Satellite Nation tonight

I just finished listening to the recording of Satellite Nation from earlier tonight and was quite interested in a new receiver that was mentioned on the program that sounds like it just might be better than most of the receivers out there. Here are some notes I made about this receiver (I hope...

Digital FTA (Need to get rid of my cable company)

That happened in New York City as well, but it was only a week or two before they had additional capacity installed. So I'd suggest getting on that waiting list, especially if the OP orders a Roku or other compatible device and is at all interested in Aereo's service, and also checking back on...

Digital FTA (Need to get rid of my cable company)

Yes and no. Roku itself doesn't offer the networks but see my post about Aereo. If you subscribe to that then yes, you can watch the regular local channels on your Roku.

Digital FTA (Need to get rid of my cable company)

If having all the networks is important to you, you might want to look into Aereo, particularly if you are going to buy a Roku. It's not free but it only costs $8 or $12 a month, however you can get a free trial month to decide if it will work for you. It will let you watch and/or record TV...

Wish I knew how to construct a circuit - I would build one of these polarotor controllers!

That is fine if the receiver does not have a too-small limit on the number of timers you can set. My old Diamond receiver would only let you set eight timers and that was too few, so if whatever I buy for my next receiver has a similar limitation, I probably won't want to use one of those timer...

Wish I knew how to construct a circuit - I would build one of these polarotor controllers!

The zip file contains five files - a text file that reads as follows: And four PDF files: Are you saying you could not view the PDF files? I didn't have any problem viewing them on my system. Try the links above and see if they will display for you. If not, you could probably use an...

Wish I knew how to construct a circuit - I would build one of these polarotor controllers!

I kind of figured there would not be a huge difference in performance and I actually like the idea of voltage switch better because those old mechanical polorotor units had a tendency to go bad from time to time. Since the voltage-switched units have no moving parts (at least not that I am...

Wish I knew how to construct a circuit - I would build one of these polarotor controllers!

Some time back I subscribed to an RSS feed from this site before I knew anything about it, anyway today a link came in to this post which I found quite interesting: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=2021770#post2021770 It begins this way: I was just mentioning a day or...

What are Enigma2, Dreambox (TV), and TuxBox and how do they relate to each other?

Sounds good T134. The Alien 2 is definitely on my short list of desirable receivers. Whatever I wind up getting, I will find out exactly what can be done via the network from another computer or XBMC and post some kind of review. Just waiting for the mini-glaciers in my yard to melt before...

What are Enigma2, Dreambox (TV), and TuxBox and how do they relate to each other?

Thanks, that helps clarify things. So, my understanding is that Enigma2 is not really necessary or helpful for receivers used solely in the USA? I can only receive the western arc from about 89 degrees though maybe 139 degrees, and sometimes a bit further east in winter when the neighbor's...

    DVB S 4.2.2

That's interesting. I wonder if the picture can be expanded to fullscreen? And also I wonder what else you can do through the webinterface?

    DVB S 4.2.2

I have been told more than once that the Amiko Alien receivers can PVR 4:2:2 signals, but cannot play them in real time. I do not know how accurate that is, but it's something I would really like to know for sure - in particular, whether the Alien receivers will PVR the CBS 4:2:2 feeds...

What are Enigma2, Dreambox (TV), and TuxBox and how do they relate to each other?

As some of you may know I have been on something of a quest to figure out what would be the best FTA receiver for me to buy when the weather gets a bit nicer, and I have pretty much decided that one of my absolute requirements is that programs recorded off the satellites can be viewed from other...

    Traxis DBS6100HD

If those features were important to me, and maybe to others I know, you're damn right I would, perhaps in the hope that they would have some other vehicle that might meet my needs (of course this is all hypothetical because you would never catch me shopping at a Ford dealership). And...

    Traxis DBS6100HD

I emailed Tim to ask about this receiver, and specifically if it had any of the features I would consider important. His reply left me with the impression that although this may be a quality receiver for certain applications, it is not really aimed at FTA hobbyists. It will not receive or play...

    X2 premium

:popcorn This stupid thread would have probably died a long time ago were it not for the one guy who sure acts as though he has some interest in discouraging these sales, even if he says he doesn't (though I have about as much proof of that as he has about some of the things he's saying, which...

Amiko Mini HD SE North America

Not to beat a dead horse, but here's another thing. eBay user docsat which is actually Dr. Sat is selling "AzBox miniMe American Edition" receivers on eBay (a current link as I write this is here), from Canada of course. No problem with that, except at the bottom of the listing he displays...

Amiko Mini HD SE North America

The way they are talking at Fridge, there won't be any available to purchase until at least this weekend, but you knew that already. I haven't heard of anyone else bringing those in but kind of lost interest after the responses to my initial question in this thread. I don't care if a receiver...
