I have this issue as well, with an EHD that was working quite well with the Hopper3 and the Hopper that we had before it. So far, the spousal unit hasn't seemed to notice, or I'd be the one in trouble.

You only need a tap if you're connecting a HIC alongside a Hopper. The HIC's have a coax out which can feed a Joey.

I use HIC's with the Hopper 3 -- one in the wiring closet taking a tap before the Hopper 3, then one in the living room and one in the sunroom, each feeding a Joey and a switch for Ethernet devices in those rooms. So that certainly works; I've never tried using the Hopper 3 as a bridge. That...

Sounds like the software allows creating more than 5 folders in memory, but only persists 5 to the hard drive. So, when the Hopper reboots and reads back from storage, it only sees the 5 that were written previously.

Sorted by title, or GROUPED by title? Makes a big difference in deciding if we can go from His & Hers Hoppers to one Hopper3 with His and Hers folders...

2 Hopper 3s would be serious overkill for us, though. The goal would be one Hopper 3 and 2 Joeys rather than our current 2 Hoppers + 1 Joey, with smart folders to filter the shows. 2 Hopper 3's would just be adding to our costs with no real gain otherwise. YMMV.
