Satellite and Problems with My Pre-Wired Home

Buy a cheap line tester, like this one: PVPT2 Pocket Coax Cable Tester Put the tester on the wall plate in one of your rooms and and test the other end out in the garage with the bell. If the bell does not make a sound, my guess is your house is not wired with home runs. Meaning, instead of...

    dish charge for program changes?

I know they added a downgrade charge in the not too distant past.... however I don't THINK it applies to cancelling of premium channels...... Only if you downgrade your Base Package .... i.e. going from Top 250 to Top 200. In either case, it is $5.00, one time. The 24/18 commitment only...

    Flimflam outfit

None. You agreed to these fees when you signed up. If you had Direct TV, you would have no option to waive these fees. At least you are provided an option with Dish.

    reciever questions

Correct. Even if you don't need a new Smart Card, fee for receiver activation is $49. There is no fee if the receiver was previously activated on your account.

Moving to a neighborhood that doesn't allow dishes

What others have already said. You have no outs. Just put up the Dish. If they try to fine you, give them a copy of the OTARD regulations that someone already pointed you to in this thread. What they are trying to do is completely illegal. If you can't get signal anywhere else, by Federal...

    DPP Twin + DPP44 = No-No?

DP Twin should work fine, with two lines coming from it. I always prefer to use Duals so I only have one switch in the system, but if I am out of Duals, I have no problem using DP Twins or Quads.

Is there anyway to watch live tv while recording a show on dish dvr?

Nope. Only if you have a 622/722 with a seperate OTA Antenna. Her only option is to watch a previously recorded show or what you are recording.... or you can put it in Single Mode and she can watch what you are watching.....

Free 722 deal is back (new customers)

If you can get a 622 for free, there is at least a 50% chance you will get a 722 instead. I ALWAYS install 722s when my Work Orders call for a 622. It is interchangeable via the automated receiver activation line for technicians.

Free 722 deal is back (new customers)

It does not specify, however inside the same bubble that says Free HD DVR Upgrade, there is a picture of a 722, with the model number clearly visible. Does not make sense that they would force a 612 on you, since you can get 4 room installation for free... that would then require 3 receivers...

Free 722 deal is back (new customers)

Just got a new flyer today... I'm guessing charging new customers for 722's wasn't going over well and the 722 HD DVR for free deal is back in effect :)

Cancelling Service and Setting up Service with Different Name

Dish usually doesn't even ask for the LNB back anymore... if they do, just say it is in an unsafe place and they will waive the return. They will want the receivers back of course. You should get a new Dish when you sign up again... I didn't notice where you were but you might get a EA...

    DPP Twin + DPP44 = No-No?

Dish Network engineers do not want any LNB with an internal switch fed into a Switch.... it usually DOES work, but not for long... and can cause intermittent problems. The proper way to do your setup is 2 DP Duals fed into that switch (using the same Y bracket)

    Early Termination fee

I have workorders every day that list "30 Day MBG" in the codes area. This promotion still exists.

    boardband connection

Yeah, unfortunately, if you read the fine print on the contracts you sign when you sign up for Dish, there is a disclaimer that says that it is up to Dish Network's discression to decide whether or not your receiver is properly hooked up to the phone/internet or not... so they have full power...

    Early Termination fee

My guess is some idiot sales person sold them a DVR system to make a few extra bucks.... they do this crap all the time where I install and most the time the customer doesn't even know what a DVR is let alone have any interest in using it.

oooooooook .. this noob would appreciate a word ..

The Satellite Signal frequency is not one set frequency... it involves a range of frequencies as it is sent down the cable to your receiver. If you think graphically, picture a wave to represent 1 frequency.... now add another wave, but offset it a little from the first.... now do that millions...

    Early Termination fee

Dish Network has a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. If they cancel in 2 weeks, they should not be charged. Talk to a different CSR or Coach if you were told otherwise.

Receiver resets, HDTV turns on in the middle of the night.

Other than what was suggested in your first post, or hooking the HDMI into a Stereo receiver with HDMI pass-thru, I don't see any other ways to fix this.

Internet Speed Problem - Phone company says it's on my end

Your ISP police's what you download? Man, I'd be looking for another ISP. What a joke. I'd probably be in prison by now if my ISP did that.

TurboHD w/ Comcast internet in an Apartment

If your Dish goes on your balcony, the installer will not be tapping into your prewired outlets anyway. Those cables usually run to a junction point that is nowhere near your balcony, and is most often locked. What I do on most apartments with a balcony install is, I run a cable through the...
