My mother lost all of her previous waivers after the switch (CBS, FOX and NBC). She has had to reapply for the Fox waiver so she can hopefully get Fox in HD (the only HD signals we can't get OTA are Fox and ABC).

I don't understand your position? First you say we should pay for the new equipment, now you say it's silly to worry about it (basically) since D* takes care of their customers. I'm kinda confused ???

If I do that, what techs will D* send to my house? If they're the same guys my local company uses, I think I'll still be in the same boat since they claim there is no way to get a good signal in this area (and they've never done an install with a good signal)

I have NO PROBLEM as long as my current receiver continues to get the HD programming I pay for. If they go MPEG4 and my receiver can still get MPEG2, then I agree with you, I SHOULD PAY for the upgrade. However, if they force me to go MPEG4 and obsolete my receiver, then THEY should pay.

Can you show me where it is said that all HD channels will be available in MPEG4 and MPEG2? I haven't seen/heard that anywhere (haven't really looked for it either).

Initally only HD locals will go in MPEG4, right? If that's the case I don't have to worry for a while since I'm way down the list on ever getting that (don't even have SD locals yet).

That would be perfectly acceptable to me, but I was under the impression that when the switch to MPEG4 was made, boom that's it, no more MPEG2

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the entire issue, but when D* makes the switch to MPEG4 my current receiver is useless, correct? When Ford comes out with a new auto a few months after I buy mine, I may be a bit peeved, but at least I can still drive the car I have.

Well I would do that, but the installer insisted that 50 was actually pretty good and that of several installs that he has done, including his own, was pretty much typical. So I dunno???

I just got D* installed a a couple days ago and the installer says the best he can get for signal on 110 is about a 40-50. We have 101 and 119 in the 90's. At one point while aiming the dish we had the 110 signal up to 90, but we weren't able to get 101 or 119 while 110 was strong. Once we got...

Does this mean when I get my D* hooked up tomorrow I won't be able to get Fox HD? I live in an area where I can't get Fox at all OTA, analog nor digital.

Just a note they make adapters that fit in light sockets to make them outlets. Only catch is you'd have to leave the lights on all the time.
