Dish receivers not compatible with OTA station - how to resolve? (WHUT-DT Wash DC)

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think that excess signal is the problem. I'm a reasonable 8-10 miles from the transmitter, and I get 100% signal from all my local OTA stations. The problems that the Dish 622/722 have seem to be unique to the broadcast encoding format. For example on...

Dish receivers not compatible with OTA station - how to resolve? (WHUT-DT Wash DC)

NO, and yes. You guys are killing me! WHUT-DT is NOT a low power station. Where did you get that misinformation? They are broadcasting with 100kW! I have ultra strong signal strength (100%). Yes, they are a PBS, University affiliated station. So? Standard caveat for all OTA stations ;)

Dish receivers not compatible with OTA station - how to resolve? (WHUT-DT Wash DC)

The station is NOT a low power analog station. WHUT-DT is broadcasting with a very strong ATSC digital signal (signal meter = 100). WIth regard to other tuner devices, I can receive WHUT-DT perfectly well on three other TV sets. The major problems only occur with DishNetwork's receivers...

Dish receivers not compatible with OTA station - how to resolve? (WHUT-DT Wash DC)

Problem: Both of my Dish receivers (a 622 and a 722) have compatibility problems with the local OTA transmission from WHUT-DT (RF 33 in Washington DC DMA). These problems are well documented in various threads on this and other forums and are perfectly repeatable and consistent. The problems...

Service Plan - minimum subscribe period?

If I subscribe to the $6/mo Service Plan in order to get Dish to exchange a defective DVR, how long do I have to keep the Service Plan active on my account? 1 month? Is there a cancellation fee if I remove it?

Anyone else in Wash DC with OTA and Dish 622 or 722? (WHUT-DT)

I assume your 612 was fine for live viewing (as is my 622), but did you happen to try DVR playback on it? Was it OK, or did it skip every few seconds?

Anyone else in Wash DC with OTA and Dish 622 or 722? (WHUT-DT)

My 622 is on L633 firmware, and I have absolutely zero other problems with it (unlike my 722 of late). This problem with WHUT is not new, either, btw, so I don't think the HDD has anything to do with it. The problems with WHUT (32-01) occur any time, with any programming. The symptoms on the...

Anyone else in Wash DC with OTA and Dish 622 or 722? (WHUT-DT)

I have chronic problems with the behavior of my 622 and 722 when displaying or playing back WHUT-DT (RF 33, PSIP 32). Does anyone else in the Wash DC area experience these OTA symptoms with that station?: Dish 622: Shows live WHUT-DT just fine. But when played back in DVR mode, the picture...

What's up with my ol' reliable 722? Problems, problems...

Yes, that's a strong distinction. If only OTA recordings are experiencing problems, then how does the harddrive get blamed?

What's up with my ol' reliable 722? Problems, problems...

My 722 has been virtually flawless until about two weeks ago. Is the latest software upgrade to blame?? Of course, I done all the usual rebooting, check switches, etc. I have firmware L674. The most significant problem is that many recordings exhibit playback errors consisting of broken-up...

One of my locals picture size has shrunk, Why?

I believe that when Dish retransmits an SD version of a digital OTA channel which is being broadcast in widescreen 16:9, they ask the station to select how they prefer the SD version to be formatted. Many/most stations are broadcasting a mix of 4:3 and 16:9 original content, but choose to keep...

DVR 722 in cabinet... RF remote?

If you're really serious about hiding equipment behind cabinetry, then a dedicated IR repeater system might be worth considering. Here's one type.

Now that Direct has PBS HD what are the odds Dish will follow?

If I were forecasting the long-term viability of satellite TV, I would point out this issue as a serious looming problem with their business model. The issue I speak of is the fact that neither Dish or DirecTV has the bandwidth to adequately feed all local-in-local channels in High Def, while...

Burn DVD Disc from EHD or 722

Thank you for providing a good answer in this thread dominated by misinformation, conjecture, and falsehoods! You might want to clarify that the term "encrypt" here means that Dish has the capability to employ CGMS (Copy Guard Management System) on selected programming if there is an agreement...

Tried to order a DTVPal DVR

Not true. Dish's LIL service only gives me the four major network feeds in HD. It does not include any subchannels, nor PBS, nor a dozen other digital channels that can be received OTA.

Help understanding coax run on multi-room system

Assuming that the single coax you have going from the dish to the downstairs location can be tapped by the upstairs TV location, you can diplex the return RF signal from the 722's second output. You would need two Sat/RF diplexers. It might look something like this: DISH | | |...

722 DVR Events Showing Locked Events

No, in that case the reboot won't help. Once you lock out a channel from the guide, all recordings from the channel are locked also. Your only choices are to unlock the recordings as you watch them, or go back and restore those channels in the guide.

722 DVR Events Showing Locked Events

This problem can also be caused if you have removed/locked any channels in the guide listing. Sometimes people will remove the 8xxx channel alias for their locals so they don't have to see them in the guide, and this will effectively lock any DVR event previously recorded on those channels...

    Dish Introduces DTVPal DVR

Judging from the pictures in the manual, it looks like the guide display resembles the primitive DTVPal instead of the more evolved 622/722 guide. Does this thing even show PIP within the guide like the even the most basic standard-def IRDs do these days?

    DTVPal ?

There is equipment to do this, namely ATSC modulators, but they are pro-grade and very expensive. I am not aware of any affordable device. Your best bet for recording low power NTSC channels is an old fashioned VCR (or DVD-R).

    622 ota

Yes, the 622 (and 722) will receive DTV on VHF frequencies, but you may actually get lucky and be able to keep just your UHF antenna. Many UHF antennas have enough sensitivity on VHF-high to get reliable reception. Do you know the final freq VHF assignments? In most areas, they are VHF-high...

    Slingbox control of 622/722?

Can you guys tell me exactly what device designation you have selected within the Sling menu? My choices are, among others: VIP 622 (this one defaults to IR channel 1) DISH (remote address 2) DISH (remote address 3) DISH (remote address 4) DishPro (code 1) DishPro (code 3) DishPro...

    Slingbox control of 622/722?

Has anyone been able to successfully control a 622 (or 722) via Slingbox - using an IR remote channel other than #1? The only Slingbox profile I found is only capable of using IR remote channel 1, and I really need to change the default channel on my 622 to something else (i.e. 2, 3, 4...
