PS Vue solves the recording problem.

Glad it worked out. But for the record, nobody, not even Charter, broadcasts any channels in 1080p. Your TV is upconverting 480p, 720p or 1080i to 1080p. Supposedly, a new DVR interface is in the works, but it will probably be years from now, if it ever happens at all. Incidentally, my 60/4...

    Remote control AUX in cabinet

Doh! You're right of course. I had completely forgot that Dish boxes do indeed blast IR during remote setup. I never tested to see what other circumstances the IR blaster was being used. Perhaps the OP could watch the IR window through a digital camera and see if it is indeed blasting when...

    Remote control AUX in cabinet

If it is, then try using TV col instead of aux vol. You can do a quick test using the tv remote.

    Remote control AUX in cabinet

Maybe it changes the TV volume via HDMI which affects the optical out level to Aux.

Dish boxes don't have IR blasters.

What do I need to get Vue?

Amazon claims 30% faster. So if it takes 10 sec to load the guide on the old stick, it would take 7 seconds on the new one. Not much of a difference IMO, at least on paper.

    What do you think ?

I can see the advantage for hard-core sports fans and those who can't get cable at all or just have a terrible cable company. But my bill for Charter's mid-level package plus HBO/SHO/MAX, one 4-tuner DVR and 5 Minis is $80. Last time I checked, the same with DirecTV would run me $57 in DVR and...

    What do you think ?

Total expense. You are paying for the dish and install one way or another, even though it's "free" via longer contracts and higher fees. In my market, cable beats sat in almost every respect. It would cost me about $80 more per month to replace my package and 5 TV TiVo system with sat. Plus...

    What do you think ?

Can't disagree with any, but some are a stretch or apply to all providers. Bottom line, sat will always has and always will be more complex and expensive than cable.

Direct TV no more. Charter and TiVo now my best deal

So sorry for the confusion. My response should have been directed at Pixl. He's the one with TiVo and the unconnected tuning adapter.

    new vizio tv

Can you post any more info about this "tablet"? The tv appears to come with a standard IR remote with qwerty, not a tablet. Even if it did come with some sort of tablet remote, it would not interact with your Hopper in any way. The apps appear to be built in as they have been in previous Vizio...

Direct TV no more. Charter and TiVo now my best deal

Jhon, as another poster said, that box you didn't connect is probably a tuning adapter. If you check every channel, you'll probably find some in your package that you can't tune. If those channels are important to you, you need to connect the tuning adapter. It's free anyway, so you have nothing...

Good. Thanks for asking. I dropped the computer DVR when Rovi took over. But now Rovi has also taken over Tivo, and I have the same old problems again. I can't win :oldfrown. In any case, it's just TV.

Why buy a PS4 just for View when Fire TV is so much cheaper and has a hell of a lot more streaming apps, not to mention IR remote control possibilities?

Going from 1080i to 1080p is not upscaling but simply de-interlacing. Whether the DVR does it or your TV or AVR does it, the result should be identical. I'm glad you're happy with Charter (I am too), but any picture quality differences you're seeing are due to other factors. If you came from...

Yeah, I've managed to keep my Silver discount a couple of times as well. But I'll probably just drop cable TV next time around. PS Vue + OTA has just about everything I've got now for a fraction of the price.

Smart move. Just watch out when your promo ends. Your price goes through the roof. TV goes to $60, Internet to $65, DVR to $12 + $7 per box = about $145. Enjoy it while it lasts.
