Bought An Old RCA Receiver From Flea Market

No joke... I was just hoping to get lucky and thought I would call to see if they would activate it. I was shocked

    Education needed !

It could be years before directv phases out mpeg2 equipment. You're not going to see any official word on that for a long, long, long time. I've got a house full of Series 2 tivos on my non-HD tv's so I will be in the same boat at some point. Directv will upgrade you if you're willing to...

    A short in the line

Thanks for your help guys. The problem was that I never really took the time to see the appropriate way to cut a wire, and that I didn't have the greatest tools for doing it. I did some research on this the other day and I came across a thread where people argued the different techniques...

Bought An Old RCA Receiver From Flea Market

I've activated a total of 4 boxes that I've gottten from ebay. Twice the CSR made me order the new card (I never thought to try to get reimbursed), twice they let me activate it under the old card. I activated one last week that had not been activated in 3 years (under someone else's name) and...

    A short in the line

I've been having intermittent connection problems with 2 of my lines. Lately, they don't seem to work at all. These lines go to my basement tivo so I don't use it all that often. Anyway, I hooked up a line tester and it shows that the lines have a short in them. What is the most likely...

    HD Fine Tuning

The points about HDMI are worth noting. I'm upconverting my dvd through a Denon receiver (LOVE IT!) over the HDMI cable. Anyway, I almost forgot to look up the other product: http://www.audioholics.com/techtips/setup/avhardware/DigitalVideoEssentialsDVDr.php I'm not sure if you're an...

    HD Fine Tuning

check back later tonight.... I'm at work right now. I may even give it a try.... I've been putting it off for a while now but a guy that I trust with Home Theater advice swears by it

    HD Fine Tuning

I avoid Monster products like the plague ;-). I have Avia's guide and that seemed to work well, but some of the content is a little outdated (which may not apply to you, depending on your tv). I have another one at home that is a little newer and came highly recommended to me. The reviews...

    HD Fine Tuning

Definitely get the calibration dvd - it is worth every penny. It also comes with the colored 'paper' that you need for adjustment. Most come with audio calibration as well.

    Multi-Room Advice, please?

You hit the nail on the head! I can't imagine that directv is going to do this any time soon (if at all), especially now that they split with Tivo. Also, it seems that many of their programming efforts are with the HR20 (which I have an love) but even that seems a longshot for MRV.

    Multi-Room Advice, please?

I've been modifying Hughes HDVR2's for a few years now. It is a legal modification (I am a 10 year D customer) ... the only downside is that you break your warranty on that box (they are very cheap now anyways). My HDVR2's are on my home computer network (some wired, some wireless) and they...

    OTA without sub

I thought i saw this question posted a while ago but i just did a search and I can not find the answer. I am a current and long-time directv customer that would like to take a recently decommissioned hdvr2 (6.3) and use it as an OTA receiver. Is this possible? It keeps complaining about not...

    NY network feed waivers.

I'm the first person to say that the laws are absolutely ridiculous. I can get the SD feed of NBC NY (I'm in buffalo) but not the HD feed. As it was pointed out earlier, it is all about the advertising dollars. Censorship? That's a strong word. Remember that canadian media (radio and tv)...

New HR20 DVR Over The Air Turner

Yup, October is the date that is being tossed around but you know how that works. I had to stack my old h10 on top of the hr20 and flip back and forth to watch the locals in HD. On the plus side, I see a noticeable difference in hd picture quality from directv signals. Of course, nobody has...

    HR20 and OTA

Not that it matters, but.... yes, I was well aware of that page and we even tried that. Trust me, the snd HR20 looked much different than the first one out of the box.

I need HELP connecting home theater to Directtv HD DRV receiver.

It sounds like you might have an issue with your Panasonic receiver and not the satellite receiver. Ideally you'd be using an optical cable, but regardless of which cable you use you'd probably have to set it correctly in your HT setup.

    HR20 and OTA

No, it really was broke. I'm aware of the software update (actually, I'm the one that informed the installer of the update as they had never even seen an HR20 before). It came up with a blue screen and never came close to booting. No messages or anything.

    Better route than retention

I called retention 2 weeks ago and was promised the H10. Amazingly, the installer came yesterday with the HR20. But as the previous poster said, I do spend quite a bit of money there (premium and NFL ticket) so that might explain it.

    HR20 and OTA

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, the installers had never seen one before. It didn't help when the first one they tried was defective. It's frozen on me a couple of times but overall I think it is pretty slick! I may be hooking up my H10 to get locals when football season rolls around, however.

    HR20 and OTA

I know that this has been discussed elsewhere and I apologize for starting this thread but I am thoroughly confused about the HR20 and locals. I called retention the other day and asked for a high def dvr and they said they'd be sending out the h10-250 to me. Low and behold, the installed...

    HBO and TNT HD issues

I'm sorry, I've been on the road and I'm getting the info second hand. The receiver is an H10. The channels that do come in are 72,76,and 79

    HBO and TNT HD issues

I'm getting a "channel not available" message on channel 70 and channel 75 is coming in without audio. I've searched the forum and saw that channel 70 issues are often related to a misaligned dish. Is this true? I've tried the usual methods for resetting the receiver. Any other thoughts...

    upconvert dvd players

Can someone explain to me the issues with dvi cropping when introducing hdmi? I have an hdmi input on my tv and I'll probably also need to get an hdmi switch. If I'm going to have to play with the settings for every movie (I have a lot of copied movies. Legal backups, of course) it probably...

    upconvert dvd players

A question about an earlier post... can you achive 1080i via component connection? I'd really rather not buy an hdmi switcher either
