    Too many remotes HELP ME!!!!

The 921 Receiver accepts remote commands both by UHF and IR. However the remote included with the 921 only sends commands to the 921 via UHF. In order to allow owners of 3rd party learning remotes (such as the various prontos) to learn the IR command signals to send to the receiver Dish...

    Too many remotes HELP ME!!!!

The 921 is always in IR mode for receiving remote commands. You can set it in an IR teaching mode through the menu system that MarkAR's post tells you how to get into. However I have a .pcf file that contains the Dish Network remote codes for addresses 1-4. If you PM me a e-mail address I...

    Recording from Outside Source 921

You are correct. The 921 cannot record from the aux input. It also cannot record from analog OTA channels. To do so would require the 921 to have a real-time MPEG 2 encoder which the 921 does not have.

    DVI vs. Component connection

The DVI cables sold in the video departments of most Electronics stores are hugely overpriced. A good source for inexpensive DVI cables is Pacific Custom Cables. A DVI-D Single link cable has the bandwith needed for any existing HDTV format.

    Dish Network Picture Quality

The problem you are having is shared by almost all DBS customers. The problem is over-compression. Trying to squeeze too many channels into a limited broadcast channel. The reason it is most noticeable on your largest TV is that the TV is so large, increasing the picture size magnifies...

    How to get access card?

What model number is the receiver. Some of the newer models have the smart card built onto the main board. They have a smart card reader built in to accept possible future smart card updates.

    pointy thing on superdish

Superdishes have 3 LNBs. 2 DBS LNBs for 119 and 110 and a FSS LNB for 105 or 121. On your 105 Superdish the second DBS LNB for 110 is the "little pointed white thing sticking out beside the FSS LNB."

can anyone explain how this HD local channel stuff works?

If you subscribe to the HBO or Showtime packages you will receive HBO-HD and/or Showtime-HD. You make the comment "$600 sounds like a lot just(emphasis added) to be able to record in HDTV". Many people (myself included) decided it was worth $1000 to be able to record in HDTV. Watching HDTV...

    What is sat 119 for?

The dish does not "look" where you would think it is "looking" by looking at it. :D Go into the bathroom and look straight into the mirror. You're looking straight into your eyes. Now keep your eyes straight ahead and turn your head to one side. You are now looking at the wall, and it's...

    What is sat 119 for?

In a sense they are right. If it rains hard enough you will lose your signal. Where they missed the boat is that signal strength determines how hard "hard enough" is. If you have a low enough signal strength a wispy cloud passing between the satellite and your dish will be enough to block the...

DishNet HD DVR 921 instal questions

The DishPro Quad LNB will allow you to connect up to 4 tuners without the need for additional switches.(it has a switch built in) If any of your receivers are legacy models (4 digit model numbers) you will need a Legacy Adapter for each legacy receiver. The DishProPlus Twin LNB allows you to...

2inch shadow across up and down my screen

It sounds like a problem in your Sony receiver's component video section. Are there enough component video inputs on your TV to handle all your sources? Connecting your video sources directly to the display will almost always provide the best video quality. The exception being using a video...

    A Basic OTA question

Darrell, Your post should read "All new HD satellite receivers have OTA capbility built in." SD satellite receivers do not have OTA tuners (digial or analog) and would not help Betsy in tuning in her local OTA channels. Yes. Only specific receivers deal with HD. It's not necessarily...

921 newbie and multiple receiver questions

If you don't want to run an additional cable you would use a DishPro Plus Twin and DPP separator or a DishPro Twin, DPP 44 switch and DPP separator. The big deal with the 4900 (and with all other 4 digit model number receivers) is that it does not work natively with DishPro LNBs and...

Balck Bars on a 4:3 HDTV

peid seems to have gotten it pretty much right. A few expansions though. Many Sony 4x3 HDTV sets switch into a vertical compression mode when they are fed a HDTV signal. Your set may have a zoom/stretch mode available (mostly in RPTVs) that will fill your screen at the expense of either...

921 newbie and multiple receiver questions

There is but not that will work with your current LNB (assuming that it is a legacy twin). If you decide to keep the 4900 you would probably be best off replacing your current LNB with a legacy Quad LNB. If you use the 501 there are several options. Replace your current LNB with a DishPro...

    921 OTA Questions and Issues

And the reason you cannot record OTA analog channels is that they are analog channels. The 921 (and all other satellite receiver/DVR combo boxes, including the DirecTV/Tivo boxes) record programs digitally. The satellite SD/HD programming and OTA digital channels are already in a digital...

Dish 811 Remote with SONY AV Receiver STR DE897

Have you checked the Sony's settings. I'm not familiar with your specific receiver but many have different code sets they will respond to. The dish remote most likely will not work if the receiver is not set to the "AV1" code set.

    Whats wrong with my install?

Do you have any receivers other than the 921? I've seen stories of people having problems using a Separator on the same port as the power inserter. If you have another receiver try running it to port 1 through the power inserter and put the 921 on one of the other ports.

Can I do this? 2 sat boxes off 1 cable line

Robert, You don't have to be watching anything on the 501 for it to be in use. Are you sure there will never be a case when you (or someone else in your home) would want to watch a program on your 811 while the 501 is recording a different program? If there is you will have a conflict and...

need your help: replacing the protective screen

It is generally agreed that removing the protective screen on RPTVs will increase your PQ. That being said, the fact that your screen has become scratched indicates that someone or something (kids or pets?) scratched it. If the offender will be staying around you'll definitely want to replace...

    confused

The 2150 MHz swept requirement is for using DishPro/DishPro Plus LNBs/switches. As you are using legacy LNBs/switches that requirement is not applicable. That being said the 2200MHz marking on your existing coax indicates that it has been sweep tested to 2200 MHz which exceeds the 2150 MHz...
