PCs seen playing key role in HD-DVD vs Blu-ray war

Right now BluRay has a $1000 ripper and blank media at $20 per disc. That's not going to take the market by storm. It's going to take years for BluRay to come down in price to make it worth owning. Grandpa is not ripping, they are most likely buying movies at $9.99 on DVD. Why bother...

    Blue-Ray Recorders, 2nd Gen?

steal for data storage? might as well get an IPOD, just as much stoage space, for 1/3 the cost. As a storage medium BluRay is really not he way too go. And like gizzer said, HDDs are super cheap, and getting cheaper.

PCs seen playing key role in HD-DVD vs Blu-ray war

I don't see much of anything on this front quite yet. First, for any software company to sell software, they are going to have to do 1 of the following Make BluRay and DVD Discs. More expensive to make BR Discs, when most BR players on a PC will read DVD discs anyway. So they simply can't...

DirecTv HD DVR - Newbie Perplexed

Eventually, depending on where you live, DirectTV will beam only MPEG 4 content from their Sats to your HD Receiver. That includes locals and HBO, and Discovery and anything that is HD that goes throught the Sats. So it's just not locals that will be MPEG4, it's any and all HD content Direct...

Upgrade To DirecTV HD - Newbie Post

That's the part I don't know. I have know idea waht you will get. Especially if you are in a market that has not been converted to the new MPEG 4 format. You can only call them at this point.

Upgrade To DirecTV HD - Newbie Post

I can answer 2 for you with some degree of being correct. Your HD receiver will replace any existing receiver you currently have connected to you HD TV. All other receivers will stay the same. The TiVo's will still work on your other sets, but a special HD Tivo would be needed to run on your...

CD USA using up Bandwidth 24 hours a day ???

Yeah, I really wasn't that impressed. Why are they gunning for a teenage market when most of us looking for HD Content are paying for the HD content and are in a cosumer market range that have some money to spend. Where the teenage crowd they are gunning for don't control my TV nor do they...

    MPEG4 / Phoenix AZ

That's amazing. I got no hassle what so ever. The woman looked something up and I had it in about 2-3 minutes. I don't get it. Are you in the Phoenix proper, or in another town? Even if it's Tempe or Chandler or something.

I called D* directly, said I was having issues with getting the HD signal, I don't get it where I am at. I may get it if I move the Antennae, as it did help about a year ago. Then I asked if there was a way to get it on an alternative channel. She took a moment to look up my location etc...

Sony to sell 7 million PS3s?

That would be impressive. But considering the best ps2 could ship, at least in the USA, was 500K, I highly doubt they will be able to ship that many units. In fact, I would bet my house they won't ship over 1 million in the USA on launch day. Now, of course, what's the launch window...

    What's Blu-Ray?

I agree totally with your stance against blu-ray. It's like some elitist mentality out there to get blu-ray to be the number one in the market, but there is nothing that compelling for it to be, besides a few more gigs of space on the media.

    Analyst Declares Blu-Ray the Winner

Blu-Ray not hitting the PC market? I don't see why they don't want that market. There are plenty of shops wanting alternate backup and storage mechanisms and Blu-Ray has been touted to do just that cause of it's potential media size. Blu-Ray writers... if the readers are selling at...

    Analyst Declares Blu-Ray the Winner

I would not take what the PS3 might be as anything worth considering at this point. The Pioneer $1800 model does 1080p. The $1000 BluRay(cheapest so far) models will not be doing 1080p, at least in the first wave from what I have read.

Breaking news: External HD DVD drive for Xbox 360 just announced!

XBox 360 games will not be made ON HD DVD media. There is no point. Some of you are confusing the Video Out of XBox 360 for games and HDef content. That does not equate to an HDDVD reader/player. XBox games last gen were also in HIDef, at least some of them. But that's purely resolution...

In the Awhautukee area, don't ask me to spell it correctly. Very close to the Antennnaes on South Mountain. They did not offer to install it and I already have the newest dish. I didn't even need a waiver, they just turned it on in a couple minutes. Maybe that's the waiver process? I...
