Court Orders Dish to Drop ALL Distant Networks

Here's my question .... When will the distant networks be dropped? As far as I can tell, not yet.

    What's Planned for E10 Spotbeam 39 Transponder 31?

Hi, In looking over the new E10 spotbeam maps at http://ekb.dbstalk.com/297 I noticed that Spotbeam 39 (LA/SD) has transponder 31 listed (Tony mentioned this as well in an earlier thread), however http://www.dishchannelchart.com/ doesn't indicate that any stations are on this transponder...

    Low local signal strength

Sure ... however I want to know how much better my signal strength will be if I were to use an old VOOM dish (24" diameter) than my Dish500 dish (21" by 23" eliptical ...) if I were aiming directly at 110. I would guess that the Dish500 would effectively give me something comparable to a 21"...

Echostar X move and SF "minors" spotbeam

I just re-peaked and only got an additional 2-3 points on signal strength on any transponder on 110. This included re-skewing to 90 and losing some 10-15 points on my 119 signal strength numbers. Still at signal strength of zero on transpotter 31 on spotbeam 43 (Echostar X). I guess that I...

Echostar X move and SF "minors" spotbeam

Love the map! Is there some software package that would generate such maps automagically? While not exactly in the grayest of gray areas, I am most definitely in the region where some interference may be taking place. Sounds like we've got two viable explanations, both of which give me hope...

Echostar X move and SF "minors" spotbeam

Okay, I gotcha ... essentially if I am receiving a strong enough signal on tranponder 31 from more than one desired spotbeam, I will have a problem. What I don't fully understand is which spotbeam the offending signal may be from. In particular, I am not close to spotbeam 38's signal...

Echostar X move and SF "minors" spotbeam

Thanks Tony! I am pretty much straight South of SF but a bit moreso than most in the DMA. It is fair to suggest that I am far closer to the center of spotbeam 42 than 43. I am most certainly not inside the -6dB contours of spotbeam 38 or 39. In any case, interference on transponder 31...

Echostar X move and SF "minors" spotbeam

Hi all, I noticed this last weekend that I could not get some stations that I had been able to get a week earlier. In particular, all the "minor" San Francisco DMA stations seem to now be on transponder 31 spotbeam 43 (thanks Tony and dishchannelchart for the info) and I am unable to get...

BBC One Radio on DISH Network??

I checked last night just for fun and 6097 was indeed BBC One. Now I am wondering whether there is something on BBC One that I would want to TiVo to listen to later... time to check the sirius website link, I guess... Roadrhino

i am getting rid of dish on monday

There are many amusing things in this thread so far, including the notion that to ask Comcast for a lower price is somehow cheating the rest of us ... especially those of us who do not have a business relationship with Comcast by buying their services or owning their stock. However, I would...

    Local Channels

Just a note for Thunderjett922 ... if you are considering doing this you may want to be aware that you will probably only get locals in the region you are "moving" to if you are in their satellite spotbeam. There is a map of Echostar's spotbeams at http://ekb.dbstalk.com/297 and you can...

    Does Tivo work with Dish?

Yes ... from folks I know with new MCE and MythTV boxes like that they can use their DVRs for light computing as well as a DVR. The key point I was making is that the cost of a computer that can "do what a TiVo can do" is considerably higher than the TiVo cost. Further, the knowhow necessary...

522 wont work without the 9-Day EEPG on 110-TP29

Well, slap some glue on me and call me a postage stamp, it worked... Glad things are going better for you. Perhaps if you moved it a bit further your signal strength would be even greater ... but I probably wouldn't fuss with it if you are getting enough strength that the EEPG data can be...

    Does Tivo work with Dish?

I feel the need to mention two things that are unrelated to each other but are both related to topics in this thread. First, there is no way that one can build a PC which is comparable to a TiVo for $400 (the cost of a TiVo box plus a lifetime sub) ... unless you've already got most of the...

522 wont work without the 9-Day EEPG on 110-TP29

Yes, some peoples, they do write lots :) Witschey, something doesn't sit right with me about your story. I'm not going to go into all the details about why, but when an installer volunteered to help you diagnose what was wrong with transponders 21-29 in your setup and you declined, saying...

    Does Tivo work with Dish?

Yeah ... TiVo picture quality is pretty disappointing with a big (or in your case, HUGE) screen. Even at the "best" quality, it does some compression of the signal. This is not an issue with DirecTiVo because the mpeg stream is recorded directly to the hard drive. I should have mentioned...

    Does Tivo work with Dish?

Two stand-alone TiVos. They work just fine with E* ... pretty much exactly the same way that TiVo would work with digital cable. Once cablecard is fully operational, a cablecard-ready TiVo would be able to record the digital stream(s) directly from cable, much like the DirecTiVo and the E*...

522 wont work without the 9-Day EEPG on 110-TP29

I don't have a dish DVR, but I would think that those with such DVRS out on the edge of the region E* covers might benefit from such a signal swap as you propose (EEPG+a few stations->119 and a few other stations->110). What fraction of people would benefit? What fraction of people would be...

522 wont work without the 9-Day EEPG on 110-TP29

Hmmm... This makes some sense to me, but only if there were some sort of obstruction. I rather doubt that in the middle of a prairie such a problem would be found. Again, I would be happy to be educated if wrong. Perhaps our friend should attemt moving his dish a bit to see...

522 wont work without the 9-Day EEPG on 110-TP29

As Iceberg has pointed out, sat 110, transponder 29 isn't a spotbeam, so in Atlanta you should be getting a high signal strength ... about has high as for the other transponders unless there is something wrong with 29 (or 22-29) upstairs. I am just trying to suggest that in Atlanta it would...

522 wont work without the 9-Day EEPG on 110-TP29

I hate to disagree ... especially over such a piddly issue ... but the spotbeams are such that one in a fairly broad target zone can get a strong signal, but as one moves away from this zone, the signal strength decreases, and fairly rapidly at that. I live in a region where I am served equally...

522 wont work without the 9-Day EEPG on 110-TP29

Here's my question ... does transponder 29 on 110 really have black areas where people cannot receive the signal? That would seem odd to me, but I don't know enough about physics and engineering. Furthermore, why the signal on transponder 29 ONLY would be affected by building codes is beyond...

    Still have DNS and Locals?

I asked the same question in dbsforums.com and someone there (don't know how right this guy is, but his answer sounded plausible) gave the following explanation ... Back before '99, when people were grandfathered into DNS, they often werent required to do much more than simply ask their DBS...

    Still have DNS and Locals?

I am still troubled by the fact that no one seems to know exactly what SHVERA says, perhaps including E* and D*. My story: I moved in Fall 2004 to a new place When changing my address, the E* CSR offered me LIL and DNS ... I said "yes!" This is pretty much what would have once been called a...
