QUESTION - What Bugs or Usability Issues do you have with your Hopper?

Steff3, thanks; very thoughtful answer. Sports are important to me, but not enough to spend $500 for NFL-ST or MLBEI. Would like OTA capability with the Hopper, though, so will probably wait awhile -- as my D* bill goes up, and up, sigh.

QUESTION - What Bugs or Usability Issues do you have with your Hopper?

Obviously, there are a lot of these so-called "bugs." Is the Hopper.Joey really worth it? Thinking of switching from D* to save some money and get latest equipment, but is it really worth the aggravation with such buggy hardware?

    Sadly Disconnected Dish Network service

It was because we had no access to our RSN that we dumped cable for satellite years ago. And even though we would love to have AMC and BBCA in HD, the passion for having our RSNs in HD (as well as GOL TV and the UEFA soccer channels) far outweigh the additional HD channels we would gain if we...

Question about Fox Sport Midwest and St. Louis Cardinals

MLB and other professional leagues black out telecasts of games outside their designated market areas. In those areas you would need a premium package such as Major League Baseball Extra Innings to view games such as the Yankees in Indiana. If you are fortunate enough to live in a zip code...

Question about Fox Sport Midwest and St. Louis Cardinals

Of course those of us in Iowa need to subscribe to SportsPack or else get shut out of watching games involving those teams at all -- blacked out on MLB.TV and MLBEI.

Thinking of switching from DTV to Dish

The 612s will give me the same capability per box (dual tuners per TV) as D*, albeit for $8 more. But the OTA capability should in fact give me extra tuner capability, as I understand it, and PIP?

Thinking of switching from DTV to Dish

Anyone considering the external hard-drive DVR conversion option: Don't forget the cost of the hard drive(s)! I am contemplating a similar move and considered getting two HD solo 211Ks and adding an external hard drive to each to make them DVRs. (Because I have 4 TVs I want connected, I would...

Switched to D? Are you losing channels now too??

DirecTV seems more willing to pass along added costs to customers and avoid prolonged channel blackouts. (Versus was an exception; that was a test battle with Comcast; and ratings for G4 must have been so poor that they didn't care if they lost it.) DISH on the other hand seems to play...

Am in same position, having left E* for D* in September 2007. But I have been in touch with E* lately and they say I am eligible for new-customer promotions.

    HD

Points are well taken. But I also have seen differences on HDNet as well. I don't mind going back and asking him about receiver settings. But I'm reminded of the Groucho Marx quote: "Who are you gonna believe -- me, or the evidence of your own two eyes?"

    HD

The other day I walked into a local satellite retailer in Des Moines, Iowa, who handles both Dish and DirecTV. I asked the manager about this very issue, since I was leaning to switching to Dish because of their additional HD channels, lower price and promise of free HD for life. Now, this guy...

    Well, I cancelled Dish

Well, that pretty much cinches it for me. Was debating whether to stay with D* now that my contract is up or go for slightly lower per-month cost with E*. But with all the stuff about HD-Lite and now this apparent nickel-and-dime BS, I think I will stay exactly where I am.

    So I'm Ready to Order DISH . . .

Well, I would hate to leave too. There are many things I like about D*. But I can't justify the price based on the number of HD channels we get, the cost per HD channels we watch, and the advantage of DVR in every TV in the house. If D* would match all that, I'd gladly stay!

    So I'm Ready to Order DISH . . .

. . . I walk into the local installer I've sussed out, and I've done all the homework, ascertained a clear line of sight, know what receivers and programming I want, even have a ClubDish referral number, and I'm all set to switch from D* when I see HD Theater playing on the installer's 46-inch...

Tell me about the Sports pack

You will get out-of-market RSNs, but pro games outside your teams' market area will be blacked out. Some college games may be blacked out too. I also believe that ESPN Classic is now on that tier. Having said that, if you live in a "crossroads" area where several teams' market areas overlap...

Activating old Dishplayer 7200 / 7100's after 7 years away

So I could save myself some money if I just ordered a single 722 (serving one HD and one SD TV) and added the other 508s to serve SD TV #3 and #4? What would I be charged for the additional outlets?

Activating old Dishplayer 7200 / 7100's after 7 years away

I still have two 508's from the last time I was a DISH sub in 2007. My local installer says I couldn't just reactivate them - I'd have to go with DISH's current equipment.
