Why can't Dish compete with cable?

BrightHouse Network Brighthouse Network of Central Florida I pay $124.00 for their complete channel lineup. I get every (60) movie channel plus 18 HD channels. The price includes TWO SA8300HD dual tuner PVRs and TWO HD non-PVR boxes. ALL locals and non-premiums are digital. I think I got a...

new cust deal - very subtle trick - NO 4 TVs but 4 tuners!

Or you could go with a cable company that offers the SA8300HD which gives you DUAL tuner HD. Plus you don't have to pay $250 for the lease.

I am staying with Dish Network

OK -- This is REALLY Important... I am leaving Whirlpool and going to LG. Just bought a cool new stainless fridge at Home Depot. Model number: LFRD25850ST. I don't think it has any more channels than Dish, but it is MUCH cooler:yes

Happy with the $19.99a month 4 a year deal

I have no problem with E* service or PQ. Nor do I have a problem with the physical dish on my house. I do have an issue with rain fade during the heavy Florida storms (even though it's just damn hot this week with only a 20% rain chance). I DO have a problem with the "VALUE PROPOSITION." You...

Happy with the $19.99a month 4 a year deal

I was reluctant to respond to your insuting remarks but my analytical skills include training in financial analysis. Have you not heard of the term "opportunity cost"? I rational person would save the $400.00. If the price of gas dropped 25% at the station accross the street from your normal...

Happy with the $19.99a month 4 a year deal

My E* bill just went up over $125.00/month. Local cable is offering a better package with HDTV PVR (SA 8300HD) and a SD PVR and all the same channels for about $88.00. Yes, it is for 12 months -- but that is a savings of over $400 for 12 months service What would you do?

Use a Samsung SIR-T451 as HD Backup during Rain Fade

Well, I got the SIR-T451 and added a Winegard SS-2000 Square Shooter with pre-amp to the mix and now get ALL my local OTA's on my 811 with a minimum signal of 88. The strongest comes in at 96.:) Before the SS-2000 I could not get NBC HD OTA. It is the only local that broadcasts VHF. Now it...

    installing myself

Seems to happen. In my case the original "professional' installer did not ground the system. It was only after getting an education on this site about grounding did I even notice. I called E* within the 90 day post-install period and they sent out another technician to mount the grounding blocks...

Will I receive OTA locals in HD?

You might try a Zenith Silver Sensor indoor antenna first. They cost about $20 and often do a good job. YMMV.:bounce

Switching from DISH to Cable: how long until I can resubscribe and get a decent deal

Nothing is free in the free market. Companies will do what they think is best to maximize profits. If they "think" poor treatment of customers is they way to the bottom line then they will try it. But history shows that companies with better customer service seem to achieve better results. E*...

i am getting rid of dish on monday

Well said! I often wonder why there are so many posts by former E* customers on this forum. You would think that since they left, they would be happy not to think about Dish anymore:p Instead they keep posting about how great it was to leave! Really, now, why bother?

    Pic In Pic

What good would that do? You can only tune ONE channel at a time. So with one 811 tuner and no other video source you would have PIP showing the same show.

Use a Samsung SIR-T451 as HD Backup during Rain Fade

Can you split the RG-6 from an OTA antenna with a regular cable splitter?

Use a Samsung SIR-T451 as HD Backup during Rain Fade

During the summer we get lots of heavy thunderstoms in FL that cause rain fade. Even with good numbers on TP 11 and 12 (115-123) I had a half hour rain fade outage last Friday night. Anytime there is deep cloud cover with these storms we loose signal for a while. I was wondering if anyone uses...

Winegard SquareShooter High-Band VHF/UHF Amplified Antenna

Yea, I looked at the 4228, but cosmetics is a problem in my location and the CM is one ugly piece of metal. The SquareShooter ss-2000 has an Integrated 12dB gain amplifier across both UHF/VHF bands. I think that will do OK.

Winegard SquareShooter High-Band VHF/UHF Amplified Antenna

I am only looking to get maximum signal on digital HDTV channels. I have my SD locals on the dish. For the money the Silver Sensor is pretty good. It seems kind of flimsy to leave outside. I am leaning toward plunking down the $100 for the SquareShooter so I can get CBS and NBC in HD without...

Winegard SquareShooter High-Band VHF/UHF Amplified Antenna

I have the Silver Sensor now and can get mid 83-90 on about 12 stations near me excpet NBC and CBS. I cannot get a lock on NBC and CBS is 75-80 and sometimes drops out. I was thinking an outdoor antenna might solve the issue and let me get all the locals.
