    hdtv #2?

I have the 722 downstairs hooked up to my hdtv. Upstairs is a regular tv. A coaxial comes out of the wall into that tv. I want to replace that with an hdtv. The person at dish said I would need a new, spearate DVR upstairs to get high def. IS thius true? I guess it makes sense since there...

have new 722 want to record off dvr to dvd recorder

connect s video out on DVR to s video in on DVR recorder. Connect audio out on DVR to audio in on dvd recorder. That takes care of the recording part. Then: connect component/or HDMI/ or regular video (yellow) OUT on the DVD recorder to the TV. Lastly, connect audio out on dvd recorder to...

Thanks for the replies. I want to record football games to save, not movies (can always just rent them on netflix). I also may want to record curb your enthusiasm and other random things like that. My question: does anyone know if football has a broadcast flag to prevent me from recording...

Questions on recording to DVD with a 722

I put this in technical, but think it should go here: I have a few questions before buying a DVD recorder to use with the 722. I want to put things I recorded onto a DVD so I can free up space. 1st, what happens if the program is longer than what the DVD can hold? i.e. can a 3 hour football...

    Recording to A DVD

I have a few questions about the getting a DVD recorder to use with the 722. I want to put things I recorded onto a DVD so I can free up space. 1st, what happens if the program is longer than what the DVD can hold? i.e. can a 3 hour football game fit? I heard DVD's for consumer burning holds...

    No clipping warning

No. Actually a football game is scheduled for 3 hours. The dish's default is actually set to record for an hour over so that's 4 hours. Instead, it stopped after 2 hours because two subsequent recordings were set and I guess dish gave them higher priority (without telling me).

    No clipping warning

Boy do I miss Tivo! I was recroding a foorball game lets say it starts at 1 pm. Then I saw at 3 pm something on the guide so i hit record and also recorded something else. The point, is that the DVR does not warn you that the 1pm program will be clipped. It just does it, based on a priority...

    HBO 300 vs 9456

I have HBO listed on both of the above channels and both in HD. Is there a difference between those lower channels and the ones in the 9000's (because I get both).

    I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelling..

Wow I can't believe some people with DISH don't get locals in HD! Who would ever get dish if they can't get local HD?? (assuming you have HDTV of course). I also cannot understand why dish would not offer this in some markets (and direct tv would). This sounds like almost as stupid of a...

    HD on both tuners?

I read in this forum somewhere that TV2 (second tuner) only does 480. I am sure this must not be correct but I wanted to ask here: I have the 722. I can record two HD programs simultaneously and the playback will be HD right? Even though one of them has the TV2 icon next to it?

    dumb questrion e* and d*?

It's unfortunate that the abbreviations (used top make things more efficient) both begin with the same letter...wait there's an e because thats the parent company. now I'm more confused! Is "dish" really that much harder to write that "d-shift-asterick"?

    External hard drive

Let me clarify something - is it tru that I can access the USB drive from a PC and see the recordings but that they are encrypted to prevent something like media player to play them, OR are yoy saying that I cannot even access the USB drive with a PC and even see those files?

"but because of the legality you won't hear any details in a place like this." You mean fair use back ups are now illegal?

    External hard drive

That is a stupid business decidion. I just came from TiVO - they have Tivo to go. I was transfering to the pc and then burning to a DVD for my DVD library. A simple free utility would strip the DVM and I would just burn it. Why on earth would the dish network go out of there way to cripple...

    dumb questrion e* and d*?

What is D* and what is E*. Since both direct tv anbd dish start with the letter D, I am now suddenly confused. Plus, i didn't know there was a satelitte service with the letter E, I thought it was just dish network and direct tv.

With the external HD option, couldn't I then plug that into the USB of my PC and watch it on the PC?

    I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelling..

I'm new to dish as of today. This thread about lack of local HD is confusing so I must be missing something: NBC is local and is in HD (The office next thrisday is set on my 722) and I see that monday night football is HD, so what locals are missing? Thanks. Most people tokd me to go with...
