    Slingbox ceasing production

What I would be concerned with is them shutting down the directory service. In the old days you used to be able to manually specify the IP/DNS address and port to connect to. When they worked to remove that option i knew that the box COULD be killed and become a useless paperweight. That's when...

    Slingbox ceasing production

While very OLD, I still use the Mac app to watch my Slingboxes. It only supports resolutions up to 640x480 but its enough for my uses. I use is with the PRO HD and older units. I never bought any of the real recent units.

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

How Stations Can Kill Aereo And AutoHop Broadcasters have an alternative to converting over-the-air networks to cable channels to thwart Barry Diller's Aereo and Charlie Ergen's AutoHop Dish DVR: the "Dual Stream Strategy."...

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

ESPN for the streaming bandwidth for sure. I assume that the SatCo's would only need to provide some for of authentication and channel verification to ESPN (just like the CableCo's).

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

I am of the opinion that the way the market is currently set up makes these dynamics take way to long to 'adjust' to conditions. The friction we're seeing is an indicator that 'change' is being requested by the customers. The amount of content that is now on TV has grown tremendously. I'm a...

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

Just as you said, licensing. In the case of the satellite providers I would think that it could cost them more to stream the content to you because you might not be using an Internet provider that has an agreement to help with the content distribution (think Akamai). I have Cox for TV and...

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

Similar thinking is starting to appear: Exec: Fox affiliates 'on board' with pay TV plan http://www.kens5.com/entertainment/202190391.html "Pruett said that Fox TV stations could send out two signals — one to cable and satellite providers and another out over the free airwaves. Premium Fox...

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

Re: the viewership tracking: This is purely a guess at this point but I doubt that Nielsen is getting that data from Aereo. That's likely a good bargaining chip to start with. Re: Signal delivery: I think that the decision to use OTA is a cost driven decision. I'd speculate that dedicated fiber...

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

I've seen almost no mention of the DMA restrictions in the press. I know they are in place. I think it's just better to NOT mention that in the view of the Networks. I too agree that Aereo is helping to mitigate poor reception in some markets and should be considered an ally in those regards...

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

I'm CERTAINLY not a fan of DRM at all. But if they allowed everyone (OTA, Sat and Cable front ends) to have the SD version of the content for free, the FCC requirements for the free airwaves are met. I can then see them selling the HD streams to the commercial users. That way every gets the...

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

I believe that the broadcasters are required to have the primary channel be in MPEG2 and unencrypted. They could conceivably have the primary stream be SD and encrypt a second HD stream AND use MPEG4 if they wish.

    DISH to partner with Aereo?

I think that combining Aereo with what everyone refers to as TV Everywhere could remove the need for the slingbox technology.. Many of the cable channels are online now but the locals are not.. A combo could provide both national and local content without a slingbox. Plus, if they bought...

    Slingbox Intermittant Hangs

I also have a D-Link DI-524. I find it generally works quite well. I have 5 slingboxes behind it and they all work great. I am using FW 3.02 as I found the newer firmware to cause excessive reboots.

    component cables

I too use composite cables if needed in place of component cables. Recognizing that the yellow is (on some cables) of better quality I have always used it for the green connection because that is the cable that carries the luminance portion of the signal. I keep red for red and white for...

Statement from Dish Network on VOOM Takedown

Cablevision just bought Newsday so they could use them to feed content to HDNews. If they did then they could say that they spent 650 million on content.

Statement from Dish Network on VOOM Takedown

With all of the folks downgrading from Ultimate to Essentials I wonder how the remaining 'Ultimate' channels feel. Now they're going to lose income due to fewer subscribers and it's Dish's fault.

Dish Accnt "Moved" no Phone but have Broadband...

I suspect that Dish doesn't try to figure out where your boxes are physically. They just want to know that all of them are connecting from the same source IP address. Yes, once in a great while your IP address may change, and one of your units may pop up on a different IP. But they will wait...

E* HD Subs That Did Not Have VOOM

Being a former voomer I can tell you that YES there are plenty of repeat showings. Two movies in rotation per Cinema 10 movie channel. MonstersHD always had a wide variety of movies. Because Voom did not have any type DVR available it wasn't too bad. PQ was always excellent. Many former Dish...

Can the 942, 921, or 811 leave signal in native rez?

The Voom STB did (and still does for OTA) allow for native signal pass through without conversion. However the pass through mode is not available from the install wizard. You need to press the little red button until all 4 of the orange lights flash.
