10 year customer leaving this crappy service.

I just came to Directv from DISH and have found the product, content and service all to be upgrades!

HD PQ - facial artifacts (microblocking) on Major Network Primetime Shows

I am currently a Dish customer, and posted this on that forum. Wanted to post here to see if any Directv folks experience the same thing. Thinking of making the switch to D* in the future, so your input will be appreciated. I recently upgraded to a 58 Samsung plasma, 1080p...one very nice...

    TiVo-powered high-def DVR?

I read back in Sept '08 that this was on its way in 2009. Anyone have an update?

    Question from an E* Customer

The 2nd tuner output on the VIP622 is technically SD, but it down-converts HD signals, so you get the benefit of 16:9 aspect ratio and the picture looks great on any tv. I have a small 15 inch EDTV in my kitchen that I feed off the 2nd tuner...and that is really the perfect solution for EDTV...

Major issue then. Plus 622 is an awesome DVR with a 2nd tuner output.

    Question from an E* Customer

I use OTA all the time, when we are recording two shows at one. If D* doesn't offer me the opportunity to record two shows and watch one at the same time, maybe I should stay with E*?

    Question from an E* Customer

I was a Directv customer for 10 years, but left 2 years ago for DISH. One of the reasons I left was because, at the time, it took two coax cables from the sat dish to the HD receiver to take advantage of the dual tuners. DISH was able to use some sort of splitter to allow dual sat tuner and...

    HGTV / Food HD Question

Hey guys, E* customer here with a question for you D* customers. Recently, it seems that more and more of the content on our HGTV and Food HD channels is nothing more than stretch-o-vision. I think they recently started mirroring their SD channels. I was just wondering if you are seeing the...

    "D" Ranked #1.............

As someone who has had both D* and E*, my opinion is that E* has a slightly better HD picture. D*'s same channels, what few they have, seem softer in many cases. However, I have had more lip sync issues since moving to E* than I ever had with D*. Bottom line, both have their issues.

Directv subscription required to enable OTA tuner?

I have a Samsung SIR-TS360 Directv HD tuner with an OTA tuner built in. I recently switched to Dish and am trying to sell this unit on eBay. I had a question from a potential buyer that I cannot answer. He wants to know if a Directv subscription is required to enable OTA tuner? Or does the...

So is the HR-20 worth getting?

I was a D* customer for almost a decade. For the last 2 years, I enjoyed my HD Tivo. But I realized that I would need to upgrade to the new HR20-700 to get my locals in HD and all the new HD channels D* is promising. Since I had satisfied my commitment to D*, I decided that I would check out...

    Maybe goin' back to D*

Turns out. it was how the original installers wired things. They fed in the OTA BEFORE the DPP$$ switch...a big NO NO! I figured this out and went out and rewired it myself, and solved the problem. Another E* technician came by this morning and confirmed that I had done things right. He...

    Hd Dvr Question

You need to take a look at Dish's Vip-622. It supports a 2nd TV. I recently made the switch to E* from D*, primarily because the 622 is a much more robust and versatile machine. Despite the fact that E* says the 2nd tv is only receiving a SD broadcast, you can view 480 versions of all your HD...

    What have I done !!!!!!!!!

Flytank, I was a D* customer for almost a decade, before making the switch to E* two weeks ago....partially because they have more HD channels right now, but mainly because of their Vip-622 HD DVR. I could go into a lot of details about its advantages over D*'s HR20-700, but let me just say as...

One or two lines requred from satellite?

Didn't want to have to buy something extra. Was hoping that this one line capability to deliver signal to two tuners was something that D* might take care of when they install. E* has figured this one out...surely the brilliant minds of D* can do the same!

    Maybe goin' back to D*

Same high quality roof-top OTA antenna I had with D* and I am confident it is not the problem. I never had a signal problem before with this antenna, and when I get the signal on the 622, its pegging 90% plus. Its the wiring.

One or two lines requred from satellite?

On the new HR10's, are two separate coax feeds from the satellite required to take advantage of your dual tuners, or can you use diplexers requiring just use one coax into your house? And I am not talking about OTA...I know you can run that in on one coax along with the satellite feed.

    Maybe goin' back to D*

This has been an interesting perspective. Just last week, I left D* after being one of their "A" customers for about 10 years. I did it because I wanted more HD content now...and because their ViP 622 HD DVR really fits my personal needs better that my old D* Tivo HD DVR (allows me to connect...

    Questions re: Raleigh HD Locals

I understand that D* just reached agreement with and activated WRAL 5 (CBS)and WRAZ 50 (FOX) to its local HD local line-up. Can anyone confirm this? If they have, how does the PQ compare to OTA? And finally, are you noticing any kind of lip sync issue with WTVD 11 (ABC) on their HD local...

    DirecTv Retention Story

Is this true??? Two of my locals, WRAL (CBS 5) and WRAZ (FOX 50) in the Raleigh area are only available via OTA. Not having them listed in the guide would be an issue for me too.

    DirecTv Retention Story

I have been a D* customer for about 10 years and have automatic bill pay option. When I call they always greet me as one of their "most vauled customers". That said, I have finally decided that I want more HD content NOW. I don't want to wait until mid-year or YE or 2008...so I have taken...

Nascar Hotpass drivers announced for Daytona 500

If it's not offered in HD, I wouldn't pay a dime for it! Esp since the regular broadcasts will be carrying in-car camera in HD for the first time this year.

    Question for subscribers…

This is a great question! As a ( year D* customer considering making the switch to E*, I found myself wanting to read good reasons to stay...but in all these pages, there are only isolated reasons. I went with Directv 9 years ago because our local cable was so bad. For a while, I kept the...

DIRECTV: 100 HDTV Channels In 2007

So, I am trying to piece all this together; knowledgable folks feel free to affirm. Sounds like E* is the current HD leader, based purely on quantity of channels and HD content (we will not debate quality), but their bandwidth is maxed out and they can't add many more HD channels (if any) until...
